Re: Test Drive: 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP Coupe - "A car transformed"

Nice ride but the price is too high. I am a Pontiac fan from way back but have felt for a long time that they are pricing their product far too high for the people who want them.

Re: Test Drive: 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP Coupe - "A car transformed"

Nice review..but somehow continues to put those suttle "but Honda is just a smiggen better" remarks in. Whatever..I think they need to come down on the price and bam! You'll have one hell of a car. Value pricing baby!

Re: Test Drive: 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP Coupe - "A car transformed"

I think the G6 interior is probably the nicest GM has right now for the money - especially with the 2006 changes (3 spoke wheel, plastic around the radio and a/c matching the rest of the dash). Yeah, the writer may be nitpicking about the center console, but it is true. The Camry and Accord both do have nice hinged doors to cover the cup holders - small things, yes, but it's that attention to detail that has made them numbers 1 and 2. Now practically speaking that wouldn't be enough to disuade someone from buying the G6.

The point, however, if that much thinking and time went into a lid for the cupholders, you know that that much thinking went into the rest of the car. That's the feeling of quality - when the little details are sweated out. The only GM car that I've ever been in that gave this all-around sense of quality is my parent's 2001 Aurora (as good as a Lexus IMO).

Re: Test Drive: 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP Coupe - "A car transformed"

The GTP really only should be had as a coupe with the manual transmission. A sedan or an automatic really ruins the whole image, and I can't imagine it would be the same driving experience with four doors or a pathetic 4-speed.

Re: Test Drive: 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP Coupe - "A car transformed"

Maybe GM realizes that you don't need a hinged door to cover the cupholders. Some of these nitpicks are just ridiculous and come down to personal sense of style. I will say this. A simple line across the dash on the passenger's side in either the matte metal or faux wood would add a whole lot to the car.

I personally LOVE the g6 coupe. Interior and Exterior, it is by far my favorite car on the road today. BTW, I special ordered a g6 GT coupe, black and it arrived this week. So come January 1st, I will be a G6 owner. This red tag sale rocks! I also got a $1000 bonus earnings from my GM card. Woohoo! I will probably be getting this car at under $21,000! Try getting a Honda or Toyota with all these features for that!

very fair review, something that cannot be found in MotorTrend
Matt Stone's short on the G6 GTP coupe in the most recent MT issue was pretty positive, save for noting that a well-optioned car costs Mustang money. But other sporty cars in this price range (i.e., Mitsubishi Eclipse) have seen their value compared unfavorably to the Mustang's, and many on GMI have admitted that the G6 is not competitively priced.

I would love to see a head to head between the Accord and G6 6spd. coupes.

No you don't. No automotive magazine would give the G6 a fair shake, no matter how good it is. Magazines like Motor Trend and Car and Driver have pronounced the G6 a P.O.S. and thats an opinion they'll stick to.

Re: Test Drive: 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP Coupe - "A car transformed"

Overall thoughts on the G6 coupe from me.....I like the car, but don't love it. Like most, It would do well to already have something other than a 4 speed only as an automatic choice. I also wish the front end was a little more aggressive.

You can't argue with the price on the GTP couple when incentives are figured in. Great deal if it's in the class of car you are looking for. I dont' think it is overpriced at all. Get a loaded 240hp accord coupe and I think you are looking at $27-$28k?

Time to shut this Kool-Aid stand down.

Car and Driver drummed the G6 GT it tested largely because it didn't back the sporting hype Pontiac typically sprinkles into its ads. http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=8899&page_number=1

Motor Trend went as far as to call it a credible mainstream competitor in spite of its deficiencies...

Most people who buy this car will want it in an automatic though. Just about any car these days..if it is offered only in a manual...is going to lose a lot of sales.

how about Suggesting an SMG instead of manual only?

Reading your other thread, wouldn't that have been a good thing? :spit:
For me? Perhaps. I'm starting to like it, though.

But GM wouldn't have gotten my $25K+, and I don't think they could afford missing out on any sales.
