This is embarrassing to GM IMO. How is the old Expedition still better in all of these areas when the GM's SUV's are ALL NEW!?!? I know, the IRS but seriously? WOW. Although I would still take a Suburban, Yukon XL, and of course Escalade ESV over the Expedition EL and Navigator L, this is impressive along with their Ecoboost. Why don't they offer the 5.0L like they do on the F-150 though? It should be a no charge option no matter which one you go with.
I think the real story here is these are trucks that even when "all new" designs are typically evolutions of prior versions and not revolutions. All new in this segment doesn't really mean everything is new!

As for the 5.0, it is an inferior engine in every way except exhaust note for this type of application.

I wil never buy a vehicle that weighs 6300 lbs. EVER. For ANY reason. That's just wasteful. I would like to see GM do additional tweaks to the new models. I know that is not their way, but a 250 lb weight reduction, better braking,, steering and cornering wouldn't be too much too ask.

This was a humorous test.

Total Recall Motors claims their 2014 based truck products are all-new.

They aren't. To suggest otherwise is to lie. These are old bones with different sheetmetal and a different interior. This is a product that dates back to 1999.

Ford doesn't even claim this is a new product and doesn't play the pretend and lie game that Witch Bara's company does. But somehow, the old bones work far better in the real world than the fake new product can muster. While Ford didn't bother to change much, the items it did change now trump what TRM and Witch Bara didn't. You can have something that looks new but drives like last century, or you can have something that looks last century but drives like a product from today.

Ford has a truly new product in the wings - and Total Recall Motors won't.

And this will be delicious as the fraud and deception of Bloody Mary are once again trumped by a company that saved itself and hasn't recall everything its built since 1969.

If you need to haul a large family and stuff and trailer, what would you use then?

Based on the reviews I've seen, the refreshed Expedition and Navigator are nothing to sneeze at. They probably won't surpass the GM triplets in sales, but they do have a lot of features that set them apart in a positive way.

The 5.0L doesn't have the torque band that the EB does, and the EB is likely to offer at least comparable economy. And at these price points it's nice to get "upgrade" engine as standard.

You would rather spend $70K for a brand new design that is functionally inferior?
In terms of? The Expedition has a nice third row thanks to the IRS and can tow more. Other things are less important like it's superior acceleration or the way it handles (as if many people care in such SUVs), but if these are all in fact advantages over the GM products, then that's where my money would be.

BUT I have not driven the new GMs so I don't have a personal opinion nor do I plan on buying a giant SUV any time soon. If I was spending 70K on a big SUV though, neither the GM or Ford SUVs would be my choice. I'm going full ugly: Infiniti QX80. Yeah, not the best exterior ever, but I've never minded it and the interior is way better than even the luxury Ford and GM SUVs. Plus it can actually tow (rather relevant in this segment) more than any GM SUV can in any configuration of which I can think. I know it's an unpopular decision on GMI, but while I think the Denali/Escalade has the superior exterior design and maybe handles better, the Infiniti is better in about any other way I can think of.

What if you have a boat? I understand your point, but I suppose anything other than a 1980s Civic is "wasteful".

For me the new Expedition swings both ways... those that know the old one can't help but see the same design from the A-pillar back... but if you forget or don't know that, it is actually a very clean and appealing design, nothing overdone, just purposeful and tidy. I don't see it challenging the sales leaders, but it can very easily hold its own and probably claw back a few points of market share.

I wish the trucks and full size suv's still shared front ends. That's way cleaner than the 150's front in my opinion.
With all of the special edition trucks Ford offers, why on earth wouldn't they do an F-150 with an Expy nose? That could look very sweet, and it's bound to be pretty close to a perfect fit, no? Call it the F-150 Expedition!

Oh and I always forget, does the Excursion still exist?

Discontinued years ago, in fact.

My post you responded to was a sarcastic question to someone who said he wouldn't pay $70K for such an old design, in spite of this thread existing because that older truck was reviewed as better than the equivalent Chevy. The question was tongue in cheek!

As for your choice, I don't honestly think a person could make a wrong choice in the full size truck category. They're all excellent vehicles with their own selling points and faults, but none truly outclasses the rest IMO.

This is yet another example of why GM should continue to worry. While GM management keeps trying to sort their priorities out, and continues to pour huge amounts of money into Cadillac at the expense of overly conservative efforts elsewhere, Ford continues to execute across the board. If this placeholder refresh is reviewing this well, what happens when alloy bodied Gator and Expy replacements hit in two years? Worth mentioning is that these vehicles will almost certainly benefit even more from an aluminum intensive approach than will the pickups. Unless GM gets serious about getting their house in order this will not end well and they can't just assume that leadership in this segment now will keep them safe......ask them how that is working for Silverado.

I'd love to host a live seminar about design and invite GMI members, but unfortunately I'm not able to, so pictures will have to suffice. :lmao:
Oh I'm all for showing pictures to point out differences, and it's interesting to know what people prefer, but when I see a pic posted as if that somehow is definitive proof that one is more attractive than another? Sheesh! If that were the case I'd have my mom post my picture to that 'World's 100 Most Attractive Men' site...

I'll just say I'd have a really difficult time paying $70,000 for a vehicle that was new for 2007.

Every year several thousand people pay almost twice as much for a vehicle that was new in 1990.

Tahoe is 5300 lbs and suburban 5500lbs in RWD. 4WD is 200 lbs more. As the article stated 600 lbs lighter. I derive nobenefit for that 600 lbs. unless I am towing 9000 lbs which we would never do. Any tahoe that we would buy is going to have the max trailer package with 3.42s and 18s. And we don't need AWD living in SC. The interior in the Expedition is not my favorite either. Plus there is no way the Expy is going to match the Tahoes hwy mileage at 70-75 mph on flat ground.

The Expedition and Navigator will never outsell the Tahoe/Suburban and Escalade... just like the GM pickups will never outsell the F-Series. However, Expedition and Navigator sales can certainly be higher than they are today, with a little bit of marketing behind them.

lol please Expedition could dream of having the success and name recognition that the Suburban has...

The new Suburban IMO looks great...And based off the early sales numbers alot of people seem to think the same.

The Suburban is the king of the full size SUV in America.
