I think the next altima is ugly. So ugly, the powertrain can't win me over.
Sucks for you.

the weight of the car impresses me the most imo

mileage is kinda dissapointing though...
Best in class 4-cylinder (with the most powerful stats) MPG is disappointing...ok.

So Malibu V6 gets the same mileage as Alti/ma 4cyl?
No...

Malibu V6: 22/32
Altima I4: 26/34

And Impal/a V8 gets better mileage than A/ltima 6cyl?
No...

Impala V8: 18/28
Altima V6: 22/28

I just hope the new platform can put that power down without the steering feel of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride.

The Camry has 272hp and 254lb-ft with 91 octane and gets 22/31 MPG.
Yup. Can't complain about the powertrain.

But the Altima is more geared towards an enthusiast driver, has slightly better peak torque, and the V6 will still be available with a manual transmission. The I4 Altima also has more power than the I4 Camry and equivalent fuel economy.

On the other hand, the crash ratings for the new Camry are excellent. hwysafety.org, safercar.gov. Historically, Nissan has not been a class leader in crash safety. The new Altima has all airbags standard, which is a good start.

I was talking about the V6...
22/28 with premium for the Altima V6. Not as good as the Camry V6, but ahead of the V6 horsepower for the Fusion V6, Galant V6, previous generation Altima V6, Passat V6, Aura XR, Impala LTZ, and just about any other GM V6 making more than 225 horsepower.

Now to be fair, most of those less efficient GM V6s use regular fuel.

It's what they did last time, but alot of Honda people are saying the Accord will recieve about 250HP. It's coming from a new engine that is supposed to be a DOHC and be tricked out with various technologies. It's supposed to have a feature similar to that of valvetronic but cheaper to build. And may even have DI like some Honda 4 cylinders have in japan already (Honda stream).
All that would be nice, but I would place a bet on a simpler option - the new Accord gets the 3.2 liter, 258 horsepower V6 from its platform mate the Acura TL.

If Honda's going to sink time and money into a DOHC V6 or a Direct Injection V6 engine, I would imagine it's going to go into an Acura first, not a Honda.

I know that three responses in a row to the same thread is rude, please forgive me.

But I couldn't forget this. Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is my wife's favorite Disney ride. If the 2006 Altima V6 rides like it, then maybe I can get her to let me buy one. :D :drive:

I'm not sure about the time frames, but Honda is coming out with a new V6 engine that is suppose to take advantage of more advanced VTEC technologies. The TL gets redesigned right after the Accord and I think the RL will be going through an update around the same time. Honda also has a history of introducing inovations in cheaper models. Besides the NSX and SH-AWD I don't think Acura has been the brand to bring out the new stuff.

That's with regular fuel. The 272/254 numbers are with premium.
OR rather, those are the numbers listed for the ES350. But the ES does state the use of Premium, and since the Camry/ES has the same engine, yeah 272 is with the Premium fuel.

I love the M/T V6 option, it's just too bad no one buys them. I've rarely seen one. It's like the manual transmission is dead. People swear like their difficult in traffic. With a torquey V6, you just ease the clutch out and let it roll, unless you're up in the mountains. Ugh, we're so lazy.

Who cares? the CVT will make you yawn and sleep on the wheel.
I don't know how a transmission can do that but if it does, you shouldn't be driving quite frankly.

oh and i doubt a CVT can handle 270HP without getting ripped...
Well, obviously it can or they wouldn't be using it, now would they?

I'm still scared to buy a Nissan ever since their QC went so far down the tubes. Other than the X-terrible, I think the new 02+ Altima was the first car designed fully under new management with such cost cutting and cheapening intentions in mind. I know things have improved since then... plus it seems to have gained 30 ponies over time, but I almost have bad feelings about this whole generation of Altima and Maxima and won't feel comfortable giving them a second chance until they go through ground up redesigns.
