...but I almost have bad feelings about this whole generation of Altima and Maxima and won't feel comfortable giving them a second chance until they go through ground up redesigns.
I don't think you're paying attention. The 2007 Altima is a full deseign.

Never would have guessed that. Design wise it looks like no more than a refresh.
Why completely throw out a design that works overall?

A 'refresh' is when you give a car a new grille, headlights, or something else minor like that. A 'redesign' is when the body, engine, interior, etc. are all new or changed.

Uh, I'm reading 268hp and 248lb-ft on Toyota's own website.
Well, if you recall, the Avalon was first rated at 280hp before the new regulations (regular fuel only for tests) were placed into effect.

I love the M/T V6 option, it's just too bad no one buys them. I've rarely seen one. It's like the manual transmission is dead. People swear like their difficult in traffic. With a torquey V6, you just ease the clutch out and let it roll, unless you're up in the mountains. Ugh, we're so lazy.
But don't you know how hard it is to eat a big mac, talk on your cell phone, and drink your coffee with a m/t!!!!

:D

Seems to be a nissan trend, I had to look twice at the new G35 to see it was actually different. (I think it was the G35)

I would call it a moderate reskin. A lot of sheetmetal work was done, but overall, it's not entirely different from the model it replaces.
Yes, it is. It's on an enitrely new platform for one thing. Not to mention the totally new transmissions and interior and the revised engine and supension.

Doesn't get too much more "entirely different" than that.

I don't know how a transmission can do that but if it does, you shouldn't be driving quite frankly.[/qoute]

look at the Five-Hundred list complaints.
Not the same setup. All CVTs aren't exactly the same.

A fauly batch of parts doesn't mean the design itself was poor. You didn't see all of those engines reported as problematic, did you?

Stick the to topic, anyway. What does that have to do with Nissan CVT durability?

FordFan said:
oh and i doubt a CVT can handle 270HP without getting ripped, though the weight of that car is the only thing impressive about it.
Nissan has been offering a CVT in the 240 horsepower Murano since it was introduced. Ford has a CVT working fine in the Five Hundred, Freestyle, and Montego.

The technology is coming alone fine.

Nailed it.

(On the other hand, I've done all of the above in my M/T vehicles... on special occasions, of course [I'm usually a responsible driver]. Not as easy, but doable.)

Infiniti Z350: no need to take the CVT bashing personally. It's not against Nissan, it's against CVTs.

Parking brake
M/T --> Hand brake on center console
A/T --> Foot brake
Is that a new trend? A foot brake in a midsize Japanese sedan... I thought those were for Crown Victorias and trucks!

Well, look whats buying the Japanese midsize sedan. The same crowd that has been buying Crown Vic's, the Medicare crowd. Granted, it is mostly the Camry and Accord attracting those buyers.

I was referring more to the design, not the actual underpinnings. It's a good thing the platform has been changed, it's been around quite a while, but it's just too bad Nissan didn't change up the looks a little more.

OR rather, those are the numbers listed for the ES350. But the ES does state the use of Premium, and since the Camry/ES has the same engine, yeah 272 is with the Premium fuel.
How do you know the tuning is the same though? Isn't that like saying the Altima and M35 have the same engine, and the 06' M35 is listed at 280hp under new SAE standards, so the Altima is actually underated?

Usually, tranny strength is measured by how much TORQUE it can handle, not hp. HP is basically the amount of torque in a given RPM range.
