My best guess at it's overall look at this stage...

Here is a version with a more chrome grille (the GM pic almost looks like the grille has dark plastic cross bars but may just be the lighting).

I've also cut the side window arch at the rear to give a bit more thickness to the C pillar.

The grille is not as sharp and defined as it could be. I found a better defined grille...

Lutz says my rendering is not even close, so maybe XTS will be a twist. I did make the point to him that they had been unusually good with security, not a single leaked or spy pic of even a camo car.

Maybe the mock-up that people were shown at the invitation day has been replaced with something post Fritz FWD? :D

Interesting effort. But I sure hope the grille is not that huge. This is going to be one exciting and fun unveiling...the suspense and anticipation is delicious!

The scale of the grille is set by the GM pic. I put the headlight in relation to the wheels and the grille is in relation to that. See the distance from the edge of the grille to the corner on the light, that means it's wide.

The side feature line also does not rise sufficiently to be like Converj and sweep to top of the tail light - not fins.

Thanks.

I was under the impression though that the C pillar was thicker. More like the Sixteen.

Could ya' try that?

If you look at the arc of the top of the side windows in the GM pic it doesn't have the Sixteen C pillar. And people say it looks like the BMW GT and Audi A7 which are both 4-door coupe styles with fastback C pillars.

Other than the obvious "prototype" look of the photo, you did yeoman's work on this.

I just hope and pray that this car has enough wheelbase, width and leg room. They have got to pull all of the stops and give us a truly premium car for this segment,
If its just a LaCrosse with Cadillac sheet metal, forget it. It'll be the old GM all over again.

I thought that they still do not know which platform they are going to use for it? This car should be larger than the Lacrosse.

With all due respect, I sure hope you are wrong... :/
Me too....that bears no resemblance to the fantasy images I've been building up (perhaps foolishly hopeful once again) in my mind over the last year.

I'm not sure it's quite what I'd be hoping for, but given the limited material you had to work with you've done a great job.

A couple of questions:

1. Do you intend to send some version of this to Bob?

2. What do you think of the prospects for the design of this vehicle based on the elements that you've seen so far?

I withheld my opinion until now, because I realized the styling was derivative of some other car but I was not sure. After that last post I concur it looks like an Impala, and vaguely a Taurus, both mid-priced cars. I sincerely hope the design is completely wrong!

MonaroSS is indeed very talented but I hope he underestimated GM Design on this one.

Does nothing for me.

Unless it's done superbly, an Epsilon based XTS is stupid. My fear is it'll be nowhere near as intelligently done as the new SRX has been done. But I'm willing to wait and see.

I would have thought that the XTS would have lines from the Converj, complete with the way the rear lights form fins. There are elements of the side sculpting, so perhaps.

The pic MonaroSS has for the grill I think is too big. It doesn't go down as low as he has in his chops. But maybe that's just me. And the top piece of the chrome is substantially thicker, but maybe that's just me again.

I was wondering when you'd flesh out a full car. I'm hoping you're wrong on some points. Mainly the grille (it's a tad huge) and the roof line. I'd prefer something a little more formal or angular. Your revised render looks better, but it's still lacking on some areas. Overall it just strikes me as a bit bland.

A 4-door coupe fastback with Caddy room, comfort & styling? I'm plum SOLD! Bring it on Caddy! If the XTS doesn't turn out with as a 4-door coupe, I think that body style is a natural for Caddy, considering it's history as a design company. A 4-door coupe variant could add to the sales the XTS will bring, and that Caddy needs so bad!

My problem with the grille isn't the size, it's more the lack of definition and distinction.. It should be more massive looking to be that size, weightier.. (not actual weight, visual weight). It should be more angular as well, sharper, more pointed.. A big wide grille has been a Cadillac hallmark for decades..

I'm taking a wait and see approach on this one.

That's probably more to do with my chop than what the actual grille will look like.

I used the Sixteen's grille and all the pics with angles close enough were a bit washed out and then I had to stretch and distort the grille to get it to the right shape. That all loses resolution with each manipulation.

So the grille is not as sharp and defined as it could be. Maybe if I find a better defined grille I will slap that on...

(Edit: found one...)
