A good, reliable midsized sedan, the Fusion offers more driving enjoyment than a Camry with ample trunk space, comfortable seating for four (you can fit five) and stylish looks.

Consumer Reports says the V6 Fusion is actually more trouble-free than V6 Honda Accords and Toyota Camrys.

With contrasting stitching on its optional leather seats, the Fusion even looks good from the inside. If you need to haul long items, you can fold down the back seats right from the trunk leaving a big pass-through straight into the interior.

The Fusion is a competitive four-banger away from blowing up the CamCord hierarchy. All they need is few more horses and, more importantly, work on the NVH.

See, CR likes domestics too if they are designed right!
Ummm, Mazda??

I don't understand this. The Fusion is what, 1 yr old now? The Camry and Accord have been around alot longer. How is the Fusion more reliable? I guess they compared the cars that were the same age? Oh well, the Fusion is an awesome car and Ford needs all the good attention it can get.

I recall dealers getting them in September of 05, so nearly 2 years.
Most problems occur in the first year anyway. Everyone has cars that run 200K or more these days.

The Camry came out just this year....

I'm been hearing lots of good things from the media about the Fusion, and Ford doesn't often get props for it's cars. Fusion is a compelling offer in a notoriously bland segment; I'm getting more and more turned on to it.
Does anyone know if they're planning a hybrid
or diesel version,
or maybe an SVT? That would be awesome.
Hybrid is coming next year, '08cy/'09my - imho earlier-than-Fall intro.
Diesel - no word yet.
Performance version is in the works - 'SVT' name less than likely imho.

When is Ford updating the Fusion interior? That is probably the only things it's lacking, a good interior.
As far as I know, an interior change is a major part of the '08cy/'09my MCE
tho Ford DID 'up the ante' with the Appearance Pkg. for it's 2nd year
AND will 'RE-up the ante' by expanding the AP's availability to more models (PLUS adding red Leather inserts) for its 3rd year.

For the Fusion at least, 'kaizen' is alive and well!

Direct domestics, not a domestic-japaneese hybrid company.

My thoughts exactly. I guess it says the Fusion is not a problem-plagued new model, which is a good thing.

But when I read the headline, I think
V6 Fusion more reliable? Is this some sort of setup, like testing an AWD Fusion vs. FWD Accord and Camry?

I believe I can answer that question. I read that the V6 Fusion was more "trouble free" than its Accord and Camry counterparts. I interpreted that as "more reliable." Different phrases, similar meaning. If it were said that the Fusion was less trouble free than Accord or Camry, would it not be just as accurate to say that it's not as reliable? I don't think you can mix the two and say your car is trouble free but unreliable. It depends on what your definition of is is. ;)

Anyway, the fact that the Fusion is scoring points against the Japanese doesn't mean that it's going to erase their reputations overnight. Not by far. In that case, the trouble free/more reliable assessment applies strictly to the current cars. I mean, it's not like you can compare a Camry from five years ago to a Fusion from five years ago because there was no Fusion five years ago.

Let’s give it another 10 years before we know for sure it is more reliable than the Camry and Accord. Nevertheless, I will give it credit for being trouble free the first year. :)

Most problems in the first year nowdays are related to build quality. So the Fusion's build quality is good. We really won't be able to tell if it's reliable until the 5 year mark. At that point, we can tell what kind of quality the components that Ford sourced out are.

If the Aura and Fusion are still reliable after 5 years then we're back in the ballgame.
