What would yawll say the top cars that teens like are? Obviously the Corvette and Mustang are favorites but what about middle of the road cars that most people can afford. I would guess the Civic, or Matrix, or something along those lines. What do yawll think? I don't know as I wouldn't think that the HHR is a very cool car by teens standards but I'm not a teen so I don't know. Do you think that the truck is more popular then any of the cars are? It was when I was a teen. I hope to hear more on this conversation in the near future. Thanks!

being a Teenager my self...my preferance is something truck like. For me a 2002 GMC Sierra 1500 is my choice.

A couple of my buddies drive older honda civics.
Another one of my buddies might be getting a Buick Regal

I dont think its preferance of what you want...its more or less what you can afford.

Well, I'd have to say that the guys I know are in to one of three types:
1: Civic "need for speed" cars
2: mid 80s - mid 90s BMW/ sports cars
3: domestic full size trucks from any period though the 80s seem to be popular in my area
Girls:
Either newer two door Asian sports cars or import 4 door sedans that can get them and their girlfriends to the mall and back.

edit: allmost forgot: the above applies only for those who have money and are concerned about others opinion of them. Those who either have no money or don't care will probably drive small old 1980s-90s cars with high miles or body damage (basicaly whatever is cheap and runs)

Around here trucks and SUVs are popular w/ the teen guys. The Mitsu Eclipse is also popular among the guys for some reason as is the Mazda3.

As far as the girls go, I see a lot of them driving Saturns (early 90s-00s). However, one girl has her act together and drives a white 79 TA w/ a blue hood bird.

"Those are the kinds of chicks I warned you not to date"

Trans Am is probably high on the list. I got thinking...if like Scion is aimed at like teens-20 somethings, how the hell are they gonna sell anything? Scion TC and LS1 Trans Am...go ahead and calculate the cost/benefits.

My friends are jealous of my car.:D

Seriously though, they really like anything with some sort of flash to it, whatever that may be. Pickups and muscle cars (they don't have muscle cars, but they drool over them) are a perennial favorite with the guys, and the girls all have somewhat new to new base or midlevel compacts - Civics, Focuses, etc.

Honda's, some Toyota's, newer Mazda's are obvious choices in this area. Also, being a pretty wealthy area, there's a healthy dose of BMW's and Audi's - particularly 3-series/A4's - driven by teens who love 'em. 'clipses and other Japanese "sports cars" and sports cars are very popular as well. Mustangs and Camaro's are somewhat popular, and old muscle cars are gaining traction in our area it seems. Trucks and midsize+ SUV's use to be really popular a few years back when I was in school (class '04!) but now it seems smaller utes and crossovers are becoming really popular.

This is for teens who have any interest what so ever in having a car that looks good/wants a good image from their car. Those who don't care, they'll drive basically anything that runs.

It seems like most are into Hondas although that phase seems to be cooling off a bit. Jeeps are popular for guys. I see a lot of girls in V6 Mustangs and Eclipses.

Insurance limits what teens can dive.

Back when I was coming through school, girls liked Jeeps. I guess thats changed since then.

They still do - Jeep Liberties. I have a feeling they will go for the Compass as well.

Some cars I've seen in my school's parking lot (and think that the drivers/owners like):
Volkswagen GTI
BMW 3-Series
Saab 9-3
Honda Civic Si (I know of two people with one - the new ones)
Honda Civic (last generation)
Chevrolet Caprice Classic (the ones in the lot are used police cars, I think)
Mercury Grand Marquis (I don't think it's the person's parents' car)
Suzuki Aerio
Toyota Highlander
Several Ford Explorers (last generation and one before that)
Various Ford Tauruses (or Taurii), most kept in notably good condition

Those are just some off the top of my head.

One of my friends said he'd want to get a last-generation BMW 3-Series, and more than one girl has told me that she wants a truck. That's strange, considering no one at my school seems to drive a truck, though I think there might be someone with a Ford Ranger.

Among the non-driving masses, I'd say that Japanese cars in general are the most liked, though you can easily find someone who really likes the Mustang or Corvette.

No, weather a HS student wants to go get a job to pay for that insurance and buy that mustang does. Teens, when properly motivated, can buy damn near anything.

Also, if you're an only child (female) and have well off parents you can get something really cool like the SSR I saw some young thing driving out of the HS lot the other day.

I agree that they will work for it. My buddy Mario, 18, pays about $150/month for full coverage for his '96 Mustang GT

Here at school you have two groups for guys. The men and the metros. The men drive the full-sizes trucks or the Z71 Tahoe (very very few Expeditions). The metros on the other hand drive the Toyohondas to get from point A to B. Ricers aren't really that big here (I can only think of one to be honest).

The women have the Toyohonda's and if daddy is rich, they drive the Audi or BMW.

LOL. Much easier said than done when HS students are making $5.15/hr.

A decent '96+ Mustang GT/Z28/Trans Am/etc = $7k-$8k.
Insurance on new driver 16-17 is about $6k-$7k per year(if no tickets!).
12k miles per year at 20mpg - gas is $1400-$1800 per year.
A new set of tires every 2 years would average about $300 each year.
Tax would be about $70 per year.
Four oil changes is about $140 per year.
Inspection/tag is $40 per year.
Cleaning supplies/misc ~$60 per year
Used GT/Z28 for $7-$8k = ~$400-$500 per year in maintnance. And of course they need money to buy other things as well -- dates, music, hobbies, clothes, electronics etc.

After going to school, studying/homewaork, being a kid -- it doesn't leave much time to work. If you are involved in sports like I was, the average school day is 7am-8pm. Most HS kids, if they work, put in 20-25 hrs per week -- enough to help pay insurance and buy gas/food. Not many parents want a 16/17 yr old in a RWD V8 car anyway.
