I really like the XTS for all of the reasons you listed. It's essentially America's last land yacht.

 

Even though it's not exactly "big" - at least not to traditional Cadillac lovers - it's got all the right qualities for that type of car.

 

XTS is a nice car, I really don't understand the hate towards it. It has never been the brands flagship andwe have the CTS for the true sporty Cadillac. The XTS has its
Fan base and it really is amoney maker for the brand.

I've driven a 3.6 Platinum and a Vsport Platinum XTS. There isn't anything at the same price point as luxurious or spacious as the XTS Platinum. From that standpoint, it's a winner.

Regarding the performance, the 3.6 was fine but you could clearly feel the weight of the car. I never felt like there wasn't enough power in most situations, but it did lack torque for a vehicle of that size. The Vsport was completely different. I stomped on it a couple times at the stoplight; no wheel spin. It just hooked up and went. More power than I could use in most situations. I've driven the C7, Camaro SS and ATS; the XTS had more than enough performance for everyday driving.

Aside from the fact that it was FWD/AWD, the XTS is a very good car. Had it been RWD, which doesn't make a difference in 90% of driving situations, the world would be extremely happy about it.

 

I wish I had a Platinum as a loaner. I'm sure that's a good bit nicer on the inside. I'm sure the VSport feels great. The media would like it better if the XTS was rear wheel drive but I do believe a front wheel drive vehicle has it's place in a lineup. Lexus does fine with their ES350...

The hate comes from the fact that if Cadillac is trying to be as successful as brands like BMW and Mercedes, they shouldn't have any front wheel drive V6 full size cars. I can understand that logic but I think the XTS serves a good purpose. There are enough people looking to buy a car just like it.

A proper Cadillac that GM let rot on the vine way too long. At least they could have updated the transaxle to the 6 speed currently found in the W-body Impala. You know the very same trans axle that everybody insisted wouldn't fit in the old W and G body based cars. That at least would have increased MPG a little and given the Northstar a little more flexibility. They also could have used the VVT 320 HP version of the Northstar for more power and plenty of torque unlike the weaker 3.6 LFX in the current and not as cool XTS.

IMO the DTS was a bit too bland and I never cared for the front end. The XTS has odd proportions to me I think it would be better if it was lower to the ground and didn't have such a coupe like rear window.

I LOVED the styling of the STS above probably my favorite recently Cadillac design by far.

 

The Cadillac XTS, IMO, has more road presence than the DTS, which the car was mostly a refresh from 2000-2005 model with a restyled front and back rear end with side moldings around which carried thru till '11. The interior was vastly revamp as well but was not much sharper looking in the looks department compared to the XTS. I'll take the XTS over the DTS easily because of its looks especially in Platinum and V-Sport trim.

The monthly sales are averaging around 1,900-2,000 units a month which is not bad for a car of this size and considering it is the only full size car in its class easily outselling the MKS, RLX, and S80 combined still.

Now I think there is room for this car in next generation form to sit between the CTS and CT6 and make it handle better without sitting on the tires of the CTS and CT6 in the handling and performance department. But considering the new Cadillac administration right now, there may not be an XTS for next generation.

I have read a few times here, and I think it's been made official, that there is a second generation under development.

The XTS has loads of presence, and it has a kinetic poise and a grace that the DTS never could.

 

"Road presence" is a weak point for the XTS. It looks like a Dodge Intrepid with Cadillac bits glued to it. It's tall, inelegant, and ungainly.

Thankfully, it's otherwise a very competent car with a beautiful interior.

Even Cadillac wasn't happy with the way the XTS exterior turned out. In response to complaints from journalists and the public they promised that that final version would have a longer wheelbase to offer a more proportional, less awkward look.

The budget wasn't there and this is what we got. It's very nice but it's weird looking.

No it doesn't.

It just needs "enough" power, a long well-proportioned body, and large, cushy seats. The DTS is a very elegant way to see America by highway.

 

I think both the DTS and XTS look great, but I can see where Envoy is coming from.

The squared-off look definitely looks more classic Cadillac American luxury. Luckily for us, it looks like the CT6 will end up being a DTS replacement, boxy styling and all.

 

I'm also a fan of that squarish styling as well. I feel Cadillacs SHOULD have hard edges. But I also like chrome...
