Eclipse with the Ralliart Treatment: All Wheel Drive, 400 bhp

Ralliart is the motorsports arm of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. Worldwide, Ralliart vehicles feature enhanced performance, specialty equipment and sporty styling elements that include more powerful engines, sport-tuned suspensions as well as special fascia and styling cues. The best-selling import coupe for the past 15 years, Eclipse was redesigned for 2006 - and Mitsubishi design engineers wasted no time giving Eclipse the Ralliart treatment.

"To be considered Ralliart, a vehicle must offer improved engine performance and handling, sportier styling, interior enhancements and bold paint," explained Dan Sims, general manager of MMNA's design center. "The Eclipse Ralliart concept passes that test with flying colors."

Special attention was paid to increasing horsepower and torque, adding all-wheel drive capability for improved power in a variety of driving conditions while minimizing weight. To boost horsepower to an estimated 400 bhp, a turbocharged 4G63 engine was borrowed from the Lancer Evolution and supplemented with a custom air intake and other HKS performance parts. The concept Eclipse's rally prowess is enhanced with the all-wheel drive system currently available on the Endeavor and Lancer Evolution as well as a six-speed manual transmission. Lightweight carbon fiber was used extensively in the roof, hood, fascias and front fenders.

The custom exterior is enhanced by Hot Red Mica paint, specially formulated by PPG for this concept. The Eclipse Ralliart rides on 20-inch high-performance carbon fiber wheels with AVS Sport Yokohama tires. Interior enhancements include Recaro performance seats trimmed with leather and Alcanterra suede, four-point restraints, racing gauges and a Rockford Fosgate premium sound system.

It looks great. Fantastic way to bring this car back to it's roots. AWD with 400hp. Nice job Mitsubishi. Now... PUT IT INTO PRODUCTION!!!

sry but all mitsu besides the evo are pug ugly well fugly, and i hear theyre gonna butcher the next evo's looks too...the problem is that for instance the new eclipse (not this ralliart concept) has a smooth flowing overall shape ok thats cool but mitsu adds too much unneeded cladding/body gaps that screws up the flowing shape of the car(as saying there is too much going on) and makes it odd looking in a bad way.(too noting an audi tt is a great example of a "flowing" car that doesnt confuse you with mis-shapen fender flares or unneeded intake vents)...sure some ppl are attacted to it but what i said is what drives a line that you either love it or hate it..why the evo looks good b/c its blocky shape flows well with gaps and intake scoops.

I think there are some interesting elements to the design. I was never really into the black rims.

I love the vents behind each wheel well. The treatment is perfect. The front end is not bad either. I am not really into the carbon fiber look on the outside.

I would love to see it in all black. That would be menacing.

i love the new Eclipse's look, it's so sleek and muscular and having driven the V6 version i also know it's a heck of a nice driver. this looks simply awesome and could be a way to reestablish Mitsubishi's past success. i remember in the '80s they had the Starion, then the '90s brought the original DSM Eclipse... after that they got fat, ugly, and slow. maybe this is the Eclipse ressurection. basically, i love it. incredible.

This is a very nice concept. Its everything I like in a concept/show car. They reduced the cars weight, increased the horsepower over 50%, added AWD, and tweaked the interior. The turned the Eclipse into what made it popular. Everything on the show car is already in use in other Mitsu vehicles so it wouldn't cost much if anything to bring this car into production.

They didn't overclad the car like Honda did with the RSX. In fact Mitsu should tell Honda that suspension tweaks and body kits don't make a SEMA car. There needs to be a higher output power train as well.

I wonder if the use of carbon fiber offset the additional weight of the AWD system. Also, the 2.0 Turbo I4 has to weigh less than the 3.8 High Output V6. I'm thinking the I4 would help the car's weight distribution. The stock Eclipse has a 61/39 split. Any more specs given?

I gotta admit, I like it. Looks better than stock. And the engine is by far better. Now if GM would put something like this into production on the Cobalt.....

I can see this making production as there is going to be a Ralliart Galant and Endeavor....making a ralliart eclipse in the high 20s low 30s would do, but just depends on how it effects the lancer....maybe giving it the power but being bigger, heaver, and smoother would put it up against vehicles like the Nissan 350, GTO, or Charger SRT-8, while leaving the very sports oriented lancer to stack up against crude power vehicles like the STI...it would give options to 2 completely different audiences.....

As for someones remarks on the rear looking like a Porsche.....I have heard a lot of people say that

And for design, I don't like Mitsu trying to give it the next gen Evo X look in the front, doesn't go with the original curvaceous good looks....

So true! Inside and out. The interior looks worse in person, unfortunately.
Sea of cheap plastic. Shame, it had potential.

I would have to disagree...interior looks better in person....infact the dash isn't even hard plastic it has a soft spongy feel to it.....as much as the pictures make it look cheap it looks and feels way better in person, not to mention with the blue backlighting makes it looks that much cooler at night!

I drove one for 2 1/2 weeks....great cruiser, but not up to par on being sports car

They need AWD to make this car stand out......

Why does the front of this looks like the front of the SEMA Raider?

It all started with the 2008 Evo X that debut:

Maybe it's mitsubishi's new design direction...here's hoping it's not....only looks good on squared vehicles like the raider or Evo.....

Maybe the Street Raider concept was an unoffical ralliart model afterall...lol...and I called that a couple days back in that post

From a design standpoint, you know what I have never noticed about this car before?

This thing is a mix.....

From the front wheels foward, it looks like an ASTON MARTIN and from the rear wheels back it looks like a PORSCHE!!!! and in between it looks like a mess!

An original design? I think not!
you are an idiot. Thats all i can say.
