Not everyone is an automobile enthusiast, but for the most part, those who possess valid driver's licenses are usually able to differentiate between a performance car and a luxury car. Furthermore, they are usually capable of telling approximately how old a car is based on its styling.

But not with the 2014 Chevrolet SS.

I love this car. So hoping that they bring the six speed manual next year. Please GM!!!

I hate this car. They took a Pontiac G8 from 2008, made it uglier. Took away the choices. Increased the price. And failed to give it a real name.

And a mission of building a 4 door Camaro or Corvette seems silly to me when Chevy can't even offer a mainstream V8 Sedan.

Still looks like a fuglied up G8.

Pass.

If they offered a Ute version, I'd take off the fugly bow tie, delete the fugly plasti-chrome, get some decent non-fugly wheels. Oh and paint it a color other than the 50 shades of fugly they currently offer on it. But we know that won't happen.

Man you all sure do get your panties in a bunch if someone has a different opinion then you. Relax. You can feel however you want and have your own opinion.

I'm just disappointed Chevy can't deliver a RWD sedan more affordable and with choices. Not because I couldn't afford the SS, but because Chevrolet RWD sedans use to be pretty popular for folk looking for a reasonable affordable RWD family car.

Only reason the Charger is affordable is because it's Dodge's full and mid sized car. It HAS to be affordable. Now, when they have a lineup with a decent FWD family sedan the Charger will go up in price.

The market has spoken and they moved away from RWD family sedans over two decades ago.

The SS is a pretty damn good car. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it's loaded. Yes, it's a lot of car for the money. No, it's not a blanket vehicle for 15k a month.

Just saying, I don't expect to run to Enterprise, reserve a full size car, and wind up with an SS.

A Charger on the other hand? Completely possible.

That's the difference between the two cars. Not saying there's anything wrong with how FCA has positioned Charger, just the two cars go after different markets 90% of the time.

Complains why there are no longer any affordable/bargain V8 that can handle well and do everything well, with a world class chassis........they will then yearn for Chevy SS and G8's of the past.

Smart ones who actually bought the car wont sell it resulting in very very high resale. Dumb ones will continue to drive their FWD Malibu and cheap Toyotas :p

I, too, don't hate this car. I'm just disappointed. I'm in the camp that finds its styling anything but sporty, even in bright red. I don't like the lack of a real name or the lack of other engine or transmission options. The quality of the interior may have improved over the G8 but the look is way too busy for me. The MSRP isn't a huge deal other than there's no way to get a lightly optioned model for those who want it, but, because it will be sold in such limited numbers, the out the door price could be even higher. I can afford this car but for the money, I see a poor value.

This car is GM's way of selling a Pontiac without it being a Pontiac...Chevy has Camaro, Corvette, and now SS while Cadillac has ATS coupe/sedan and CTS coupe/sedan/station wagon. Both are trying, in my opinion, to cater to the same set of people.

Chevy is way too loaded on cars. It covers every segment of the market and then some. Too much overlap for GM and especially for Chevy...

Man, I can't believe how many people are hating on this thing. This car's problem is that it doesn't have any real direct competitors. That makes it hard for people to appreciate or see it's value. You can compare to the ChryCo LX cars, but they're pigs and aren't on the same dynamism level. You can compare it to a 5.0 Mustang, but that's a 2 door and drives like a truck. You can compare it to a GXP, but they're 5 years old now, and still bring a pretty penny.

Let's compare it to these cars-

Chevy Impala LTZ. A loaded one is low 40's. The SS has virtually all the equipment and trimmings, but in a superior rwd package with a ton more power.

BMW 328i. A nicely equipped one is going to break 40K. And yet it won't have as many features, is at a significant performance disadvantage, and doesn't have that trademark BMW handling anymore.

Hell, compare it to what it is most similar with in spec and mission statement- an E39 M5. Regarded by many as the best sport sedan ever built, they bring as much as a new SS and even more with low miles.

The only REAL reasons anyone can criticize the car is for a lack of manual, and the one-size-fits-all approach they took with the options. Just my .02
