Camaro Going Ahead; Mini-HUMMER Back On Schedule
“All of us are hoping (the Camaro) will be a production-approved program” in the
very near future, said GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz, adding that “We’re all working
on it as if it were an approved program.” The “heritage” Camaro, which debuted
in January, proved one of the most popular concepts at this year’s Detroit auto
show, but even as GM planners continue studying ways to craft a profitable
business case, development work is moving ahead. “We’re not wasting any time,
said Lutz. “There is no reason to assume they would turn it down,” he said of
the GM board.

Meanwhile, the automaker has revived the long-rumored Hummer H4
project. The Wrangler-sized vehicle was pulled from the GM schedule, Lutz
confirmed, because the original “clean sheet of paper” approach, which was based
on advanced, spaceframe technology, just wouldn’t have been able to generate a
profit. “A much more derivative approach” has now been adopted, though Lutz
stressed that “it will still be a unique vehicle. ” As with the Camaro, GM’s board has yet to give the go, though Lutz said he is “confident it will be” approved.

This is the vehicle that should have been made with the colorado chassis. The I-5 would be perfect in this application. 220 in a wrangler sized vehicle would be just fine. The new Trailblazer chassis should have been utilized for the H3. even the old one would have been fine. the I-6 would have been a fantastic engine in that sized hummer

Because we all know what a wonderful job it has done for GM up to this point. We have nothing but praise for the class leading Sunfires, Torrents and minivans. Why produce the best of the best when we can have 5 mediocre versions?
 have you ever seen these things, they are called malibus g6's 9-3's auras. Oh if you forgot theres these vehicles called the GMT900's which are WORLD CLASS undisputably the best vehicles in their respective classes (tahoe, yukon, escalade, avalanche) and if it slipped your mind i believe gm is making some really cool rwd vehicles such as the vette/xlr-v, solstice/sky/opel gt, heck i'll even jar your memory for the saab 9-7x compared to an envoy. GM has done a d a m good job with alot of their products. Oh, I just remembered another one, its called an HHR/cobalt.

BADGE ENGINEERING IS THE WORST THING GM HAS EVER DONE AND THATS WHY ITS GOING INTO BANKRUPTCY! :rotf: you make me laugh, and after I laugh i just think:rolleyes: .

sure, GM has done some pretty blatant rebadges, the Sunfire and Torrent are great examples of this, but so far the HUMMER brand has stuck to its plan, and that has been to build unique and fully capable vehicles. the H2 and H3 neither resemble any other GM, nor do they perform like any other GM. they are fully off-road capable, they are built incredibly tough, and they do everything they are advertised to do. GM has a mission with HUMMER and so far they are right on target. i don't think you'll se a bad rebadge with a HUMMER emblem on it, if it's not capable of the things other HUMMERs are, then it will never wear the HUMMER name. i think you can be sure of that.

I'm excited to hear that development of the Camaro concept is going
forward. It should be just a matter of time until it's an approved
project.

As much as I hate the 355, I'd rather see it put on that. A Hummer on the Theta doesn't sound right. Would the Theta even be able to tackle the off-road challenges that the other Hummers do? Just figure you need a big/beefy frame if you're gonna expect it to take that kind of abuse. Sure none of them ever take them off-road, but Hummer should maintain it's off-road prowness, unlike what jeep is doing right now.
