When I read Encore Sport Touring I was asking myself "why would Buick come out with a wagon version of the Encore instead of a separate model?"

My son just bought in this segment and liked the Encore except for the power issue. Too bad this came too late.

The Encore was selling well with the old 1.4 L. It was an engine that had a power and a reasonable torque at low and medium engine speeds, which gave it sufficient performance for many buyers.

It will be even more interesting. It will be more fuel efficient. That's what it takes.

Maybe gasoline sells cheaper now, but prices can easily be more than $ 4. All GM divisions must have efficient vehicles.

Cascada is getting it.
Let me rephrase: will GM ever use it in a sporty context? It will be used in the context of cruising with the top down with the Cascada. That's nice and all, but it holds much more exuberant promise in the Sonic and the Encore, and as far as that goes, the Trax. GM has such a dearth of performance variants for its mainstream vehicles, and I feel they are really missing the boat in this regard. They have the hardware. They have the know-how. The demand for performamce variants is growing. What the hell is GM holding out for?

This engine in Sonic and Trax please. Please please please. An AWD Trax with this engine, manual tranny, and MSRP around $20K just might stop me from replacing my aging Subaru with a $20K Impreza hatch. Maybe.

Interesting GM has two different 1.4L turbo engines?!

Most complaints I hear about the Encore are related to a lack of power, so very smart move GM!
I presume this new 1.4T DI will eventually completely replace the older 1.4T.

I feel sorry for the salesmen dealing with some of the, err, less intelligent clients. "Will that be the 1.4L turbo or the 1.4L turbo, sir?"

I assume the new engine will take over altogether in time. And the additional power is welcome and should even come with a bit better fuel economy.

I hope this engine is great, but it took them too long to get it.

When the current 1.4t was launched on the Cruze, the consensus seemed to be it was a good, but not near class leading engine. Then the sonic...same engine. Later, the bigger and heavier Encore...surely a new engine? Nope, still the same 1.4t. Then the complaints about the lack of power in the Encore...gm says they are looking to upgrade it.....and FINALLY, a couple years after that, an upgrade.

We bought 2 other cars since the Encore was launched....that might have been Encores...had it had a better Powertrain .

While a more powerfull powertain would have been a good thing for the US your options at the time was the 1.4T or the 1.8 NA. Those are the biggest engines that will fit the Gamma platform.

This new 1.4T DI isn't an upgraded engine. It's an all new engine. This engine is going to debut in the all new Cruze. The fact that GM is adding it to the Encore right away means that GM is trying to address concerns.

Though I do think GM should just drop the old 1.4T in the Encore and just go with the new 1.4T DI across the board.

Ludicrous, The new engine should be standard across the board.
The label Sport and 150 HP does not compute.
Just make the damn engine standard and stop the nonsense. You want a Sport model, great. Put a sporty engine in there.
It has a winged spoiler. And surely "SPORT" tags somewhere. What more do you want?

Not seeing the "Winged Rear Spoiler"....thankfully! I expect a heart-stopping, white knuckle inducing 8.7 sec 0-60
So, you've cracked the code! Wingy spoiler plus SPORT tags typically drop 0-60 by a full second or more. :drive:

Encore Sport is an oxymoron.

Last recorded time I've seen on current mill is 9.5. And the spoiler downforce is worth at least .001 sec. But then sport badging adds .0000001. This thing will absolutely blow the doors off a golf cart. Wait! Golf carts don't have doors. Sigh!!!
