Pontiac G6 lights up the street at night with its banging body which is long, thick, and yet bold just like the Grand Am. I still be seeing these 2 good cars everywhere. Pontiac G6 gives certain people a good taste of their budget as it would with a Grand Am.

I see that Pontiac G6 is starting to compete with Honda Accord. Even though, the Accord has been around for a long time. I even still see the old ones from back in the day still around sitting on some dubs or 18's. Honda Accord and Toyota Camry is the nation's brand vehicles in the market. T

The Pontiac G6 Coupe is an identical shape of the Toyota Solara coupe. Sometimes, people couldn't tell the difference though. I'm suprised that G6 has a convertable in its lineup. Sometimes, I really think that a Grand Am should had a convertable in its lineup, maybe people would love to sport it on every single road in the neighborhood.

Are we still talking about cars?
I'm just as confused as you are. As far as the G6, it has competed in the Camry/Accord segment since it's inception, in my opinion there is no "starting" about it.

For the money though, unless you are going for the stripper version in the mid-upper teens, I believe the Aura (XR) has a much nicer interior that the G6 ever has had. Either way, the new-for-2007 GT(X?)P has the 6speed automatic and 3.6L HF V6 engine is the way to go as it transforms the driving experience.

As far as the guy's quote, the G6 has a nice side profile, 3/4 view, and head on view, I'm not to wild about the fisherprice red taillamps from a tail-on rear view but thats a matter of preference (or lack of), in my opinion. I really like the looks of the greenhouse, even if the high beltline can cause rear passengers to have clausterphobia in the car. The Malibu's is much more functional, easy to see out of, if less "stylish".

That's one of the most imformative Histories of my favorite car I've ever read. Thanks for Posting! The Grand Am was my favorite car (the GT specifically) and was the car that got me into Pontiac. I'm not afraid to say it. I loved it's styling, it was sporty, crisp, and had room for five! But yes, since the Grand Am I've become an avid Pontiac fan...and when the G6 Concept came out, I fell in love all over again. When I found out the G6 had the greenlight for production, that was even better. The G6 now takes my heart, and I'm waiting for the GXP. Plus, I've taken an interest in older pontiacs too. In essence, I love anything Pontiac. I just pray that GM won't kill them off.

That was very informative, the Grand Am was never a hot rod by any means but it certainly was popular and had distictive styling.

As for the G6 I think that its a major step-up in terms of design, refinement, and performance. The radio and climate switches should be better integrated though, and the GT should have gotten a 6-speed auto for 2007. My only complaint about the G6's styling is the SEDAN's rear...it just isn't bold enough for me , it needs to look more like the coupes and verts.

The "Driving Excitement" left Pontiac years ago. Despite Corporate efforts the G6 IMO lacks the same amount of passion, sportiness, and distinction Pontiacs like the Grand Prix had over 10 years ago. The G6 is too rounded, conservative, and uninspiring looking to be called a true Pontiac. Years ago Pontiac's name alone evoked a since of excitement, power, and respect. Nowadays this name has been synonmous with a bunch of bland, boring, uninspring, rental fleet vehicles. Pontiac needs extraoridinary not ordinary. The only thing the G6 has good going for it is it's retractable hard-top offered on the convertible model. But there again what does a retractable hard-top have to do with sportiness? The last time Pontiac produced any "Driving Excitement" was back in 1996 with the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP.

:lmao: What about the 98-02 Pontiac Trans Am Raim Air WS6? Or the 5.7/6.0L GTO's (styling aside, a 400hp LS2 with a Tremic ((Spelling?)) 6speed)? I'd hardly say that, although most of their mainstream product offerings haven't benchmarked the competition in years powertrain wise, although that may change with the addition of the 6speed auto / 3.6L offering.

Yes both the Pontiac Trans Am Ram Air edition and the GTO had/has alot of power up under the hood. But lets face the facts by 98' the Trans Am's stlying was long overdue for a massive face lift and I wont even go into detail about the GTO bec. I believe that was an Aussie train wreck before the car even had a chance. Pontiac's styling is horrid and it's only going to get worse until people realize what Pontiac's true purpose is. Pontiac should be an industry leader in power, sport tuned suspensions, and agressive looks, just like Dodge. My only hope is that something new and more exciting is on the horizon for Pontiac in the near future. BTW the Trans Am was my most favorite car produced by Pontiac. I think it could be the bec. I grew up watching Knight Rider.

I can appreciate what you are saying, styling wise, the interior of the Trans Am leaves much to be desired just as the exterior of the GTO. But refering to your post you cited "Driving Excitement" and I believe these two vehicles produce more Driving Excitement than any GP/GA GT/GTP in factory form. Styling-wise, yes you are correct, both vehicles have/had alot of room for improvement, but your post was driving excitement, not how they looked.

Exterior-wise though, there is almost nothing that looks like a Trans Am WS6, its very distinctive, even today, and with its 68 degree raked windshield, for better or worse, it does look very aerodynamic and very "stylish" at least in my own perception. :)

Well IMO to experience the "Driving Excitement" Pontiac had throughout the 80's and 90's the car not only has to have a very powerful powertrain but it also have to be appealing on the outside. One of my current vehicles is 04' Saturn Vue RL. The interior I will admit looks as though Saturn collaborated with the likes of Tupperware or Rubbermaid to create it. But the car is powerful and it has an agressive stance that has caused some die-hard Chevy fans (like one of my friends) to take notice. I will respect your opinion about Pontiac's powertrain as they have been known for producing turbo and over head cam engines since as far back as the mid eighties. But I can't see whats under the hood when I'm driving down the street.:yup:

I am a Pontiac fan, and I like the Grand Am and G6 and all the other Pontiac vehicles, but what is the point of this thread? I already knew this information, as well as many other GM fans on this site, but this does seem like you're trying to promote the Grand Am as the best thing since sliced bread. Frankly, only the 1999-2005 model was the true definition of a Pontiac. The G6 does a much better job and I think it's somewhat obvious that it's the 6th generation of Grand Am. I don't mean to bash you, but I personally don't understand the point of this thread other than informing us about the Grand Am.

I'm saying is that Grand Am is part of history of Pontiac in which this is a good thing to say as a honor. Grand Am has been around since the retro 70's. This is the only thread on this site that talks mostly about Grand Ams. I started this thread because I think that it's not fair that no one has mention something positive about a Grand Am since G6 has taken over. It seems that everyone is hating and dissing on a Grand Am very hard. So It is my honor to give praise to this car. If there wasn't no such thing as a Grand Am, then G6 wouldn't be here right today. If any car such as the Grand Am is gone and has been succeeded by its successor, then a person should talk about the memories of the previous car and make a good role to the next car. Yeah, the Grand Am is gone, but I still have feelings for this type of car because I been in love with it since 1991 and I can't never stop saying positive things about it. I always bought a new model Grand Am and I'm still loving it. My first car was even a "boxy" Grand Am because of how the styling, the appearence of the tone from her motor, most of all it was a "LE" instead of an "SE" in which the LE model was Grand Am's standard Model until 1992. SE models from 1985-1991 was a model like a "GT" in which it was sportier and more boxier. SE models from 1992-2006 took place of the "LE" model and was being the base standard model. Then the GT took over as a sportier look of the SE model style back in 1992. So Grand Am is a history of Pontiac, no matter what people say positive or negative about it.:)

We all should pay respect and make a tribute towards the history of Pontiac Grand Am. The reason I said this because the Grand Am was the soul of Pontiac which is "Driving Excitement", and because it had made Pontiac a successful automobile brand of GM. People shouldn't ignore the fact that Pontiac Grand Am was Pontiac's only best selling car for the last 2 decades every since the Grand Am was a N platform compact car. Yeah to some of the people that don't like a Grand Am, it's cheaper, affordable to have in everyone's budget. So what? as long as people beside the ones that don't like it can afford it. People always nagging about the body of the Grand Am by its "cladding" style. I mean what's up with the hateration? The cladding is making the Grand Am look better and stylier. The Grand Am ain't the only car that has alot of cladding on the body texture, all cars does. The new interior in Grand Ams from 1999-2006 look spacious and well enough to take a look at. Why hate on it? Pontiac G6 can say its has it own class of style from the Grand Am, but people shouldn't brag about it because later on, they will decide to diss the G6 saying that it's boring with the way it looks, it has bad performance and poor styling, the interior looks way cheap like the Grand Am, and so on. This is alot of complaints from people who like to talk about cars. Why do that? These people are known as "Bad and poor owners" because they don't care what the car has to offer. Why not buy a cheap car? It's more inexpensive for the ones that who are interested of buying it without having to put out alot of cash just to buy an expensive one. I don't like buying an expensive car, but that don't mean that I'm cheap either. I just like to spend money on things that I can afford to have, not just what he say or she say about it.

I thought the late model GTs looked great.

But the 3.4L OHV would not have been a good high performance compact fighter. 165 hp, ehh, not going to quite cut it against a 200+ Si.

This is the 1985-1991 Pontiac Grand Am LE pics. This Grand Am model is the prettiest out of all of its generations. It's boxy and is the queen of the true "GM N platfom" along with her cousins like the Buick Skylark and the Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais. I like this model is because I'm attacted to it and it also looks pretty to me. I had one back then and I treated it like a queen. I missed them though.

Here are some gorgeous pics of the newer version of the Pontiac Grand Am from 1992-1995. The top pics is a SE model version of sedans and coupes that is the based standard model since it replaced the LE version. The bottom pics is the GT model which are coupes and sometimes sedans that is a version of the SE back in 1991.

The Grand Am was a god-awful mess. The only good thing about it was that it showed GM what NOT to do with the G6. Except, GM didn't fully learn the lessons, as the G6, like the Grand Am before it, is a rental fleet queen.

Further, the "hottest" Grand Am wheezed out 175 horsepower. In 2005. Let me say that again, the performance division's best Grand Am could only plop out 175hp as late as 2005. By CY2005, a Hyundai could be had with 234hp.

R.I.P. Grand Am. 17 year old big-haired blonde girls will surely grieve your passage.

Although, Chris, I do respect (and am truly shocked by) your zeal for the thing.
