My battery is going to be 7 yrs old in 1-06, I have only 50K on my Sonoma, how long should this battery last. I just hate to replace a perfectly good operating battery.

Well, buy a new one when the old one starts not performing well. I agree w/ lowblaxin...if the battery shows a lot of corrosion or leaking, replace it. There are a lot more expensive things to replace than a battery, so if a new one will give you peace of mind...just buy it.

I would definately replace it, especially if you live in a place with cold winters. 7 years is a good long time for a battery, so you got your money's worth out of it. I would change it now, before it leaves you stranded somewhere, regardless of how it looks. My personal rule of thumb is about 5 years for a battery.

One way to be sure is to seek a professional with a Midtronics tester, that will tell you if you have a good battery.

2 weeks ago, during the EXTREME heat here, a 1994 Olds Cutlass Supreme was towed in for a no start. Their battery was shot, shorted cell, it was the ORIGINAL battery! That, I think, is a record, as I can't recall when I last saw a white cased ACD battery! Ironically, as I hear, the customer balked at the $59.95 battery price for a Delco 60 month battery! They bought it!

Just throw a set of jumper cables in the truck and keep the battery until it is shot. No reason to replace something prematurely.

My grandpa had a 1986 Pontiac 6000 with the original battery in it until 2004! Can you believe that? Never failed, never jumped. The car was garaged and only driven occasionally (60k miles).
