I really don't have a problem with this as a quick fix. It's fairly apparent that GM doesn't want this to be the modus operandi anymore, but they also failed to create a small car for Pontiac. There's one in the pipeline now but it's a few years away, so they rebadged and limited it to the coupe. The Pontiac gets the Aux input jack and a different front and back end. I'd buy the GT coupe of the Chevy SS coupe right now. This gives the GMC/Pontiac/Buick dealers something good for under $20K. The Solstice isn't really under $20K with any equipment and the barebones G6 is just that.

Said the great Bob Lutz:

"The interior is fairly different."

Now, I like Bob, but the only real differences are the guage faces, steering wheel, and the ubiquitous corporate radio. Just how different is "fairly different" I wonder...

Heh...did anyone notice that the interior picture on that site is actually from the G5 Pursuit 4-door (check the power window bank)?
Funny. Maybe they don't expect to sell any to people who look closely. :lmao:

Rebadges in the same market suck! I blame the dealers for this crap, because they exert pressure on GM to have across the board offerings in all the dealer groups (GM/Pontiac/Buick in this case) and compromise product differentiation across the GM family. They are shooting themselves in the foot for short term sales volume. Dealer dictation of product sucks!!!

I agree rebadges in the same market suck. But the fault for this car lies solely with GM. The dealers have to survive from what GM gives them to sell. With Buick and Pontiac neglected in recent years, damaged I think Lutz has said, the dealers are having a tough time. I doubt this thing will be much help though. How in the world did GM not see this need? Did they think the G6 was going to be their entry Pontiac car? If so, they need new market analysts. With the Cobalt struggling, I'll be very surprised if a higher priced version does well at all.

Those pictures are a total waste. Why in the heck do they take all those ultra close ups of parts, instead of several angles of the whole car? Total crap, as far as the photos go.

As for the car, why isn't the 4-door offered? That's a mistake there, but this coupe will do well for its audience. I still liked the Sunfire better (cause I used to own one...), but that aside, this G5 is an ok replacement for the Sunfire 2-door. Just wish they had the 4-door...or maybe a small wagon version, like the Mazda 3. :D

No...it's not "dealer dictation", it's cutomer base retention. A dealer needs to retain it's customer base, and when models fall off (ex. Sunfire, Bonneville,
SV6), that's NOT a good thing at all for business at the dealership level.

excactly.... the dealer needed a vehicle but GM gave them a half baked model.

I don't want to hear GM crying when this car doens't sell and then try to blame it on the dealers...

GM: "We told you dealers! We gave you a rebadged Cobalt (even when you asked us for a unique vehicle) and yet you didn't sell any. How can we justify an entire new vehicle for you after you couldn't sell any G5s?"

It will be a Catch-22 senario for the dealer and ultimately the customer will get screwed in the end.

I wasn't surprised by the gallery images

GM doesn't want the average Joe consumer to equate this car to a rebadge of the Cobalt... and lots of pictures of the vehicle from any front or side angle will give that away...

I like the Cobalt coupe better. But I'd like to see that G5 spoiler replace the shopping cart handle wing they stick on the Cobalt SS. Or is that spoiler already an option on the Cobalt?
