I am so glad to see that GM dumped the 1.8 and are making the 1.4 standard across the board...I think this is a fantastic move.

my brother has the 1.8 in his 2012 Cruze LS and the thing is a dog...The 1.4 is much more livelier and fun to drive.
Just so you know the 1.4T is not the same motor in the current generation Cruze. It's an all new direct injected motor.

So no LTZ with the new model? Will the new Malibu have a 'Premier' label or will it retain LTZ? Why ditch something that is instantly recognizable across Chevy brands? Premier sounds like a label you'd apply to a 1980's Buick Lesabre...........................
They were going to use "Limited" but that was already being used for its fleet/rental car carry-over models; Impala, Malibu & Cruze......... :fall:

Gotta agree.

phasing out LTZ was stupid and I really don't get the move.
It is actually worse...........

Malibu and Volt both have Premier models instead of LTZ.
A trifecta of stupid; Cruze, Volt and Malibu........ and it being such a good idea, I expect Impala to soon follow, but if it doesn't WHY!?

See we don't always have to disagree, even you can call a spade a spade once in a while........... :yup:

;)

I've often said it is the product and not the name that sells the car, but Chevy could help themselves out a bit, LTZ is very recognizable, lots of identity and equity, yet they don't seem to want to use it, and if LTZ is bad, then isn't continuing to use LT worse?

This is what comes to mind when I think of 'Premier'. Ugh...

Having a properly contented Cruze SS is a real no brainer. 2.0, suspension, tires, brakes, etc. Meanwhile Ford not only offers their ST starting $22K, they are putting the Focus RS AWD with 300+ HP through its final testing.

Hopefully Chevy will step up to the plate when the Cruze hatchback comes to market.
I actually like the Verano Premium the way it is. It's plenty fast but still quiet and smooth riding.
I don't know why they don't make a more Fast n Furious Cruze, differentiated from Verano Premium by ride characteristics.

I am well aware, but thanks anyways.

I have no problem calling out GM when I feel its warranted. I just don't feel like I need to do it in every single one of my damn posts ;) Does that make me a kool-aid drinker?

Why is the safety of manual transmission customers not equal to that of automatic transmission customers?

It's a shame that selecting a manual transmission blocks the almost universal (almost), new generation safety equipment (available in most cases as an option) on most vehicles today...not to mention a sunroof, nice alloys, and high end sound system.

Not all manual transmission customers are looking for a low end, bare-bones vehicle. Some of us just like to row our own gears.

.
I was hopeful they would give us the option of the manual on a higher trim. I sold my Cruze 2LT manual recently, and was considering the NG Cruze....now I will likely look to a Mazda3.

I don't know why they changed LTZ to "Premier" either, but here's what I see when I compare NG Cruze to current model:

--more HP;
--less weight;
--1.4T and four-wheel discs on all models;
--rear-vision camera and MyLink on all models;
--looks good inside & out.

Now that the LS comes with the 1.4T I'd go for that with a manual tranny. I assume you'll be able to get Cruise Control as a dealer-installed option like the current model (they basically replace the steering wheel):

Or maybe a Mercury Milan. Now that Mercury isn't using Premier to designate their higher end offerings its open for Chevrolet to use. I wish they'd have stayed with LTZ as well. At least they didn't change the base model name like they did from Cavalier to Cobalt to Cruze. I never loved the Cruze name, but at least it's recognized as the Chevy compact model, and does so without embarrassment.

Who was LTZ recognizable to other than Chevy owners? LTZ is just a grouping of meaningless letters, "premiere" means something to everyone. I'd think everyone would like a package name shift to a name vs. letters, kind of akin to the arguments for Cadillac names vs. CT6.

I agree 100%. If you've ever been shopping for a Chevrolet model, you know what an LTZ is and where it ranks among the other trims. GM could have used LTZ as a model between the LT and Premier instead of making trims like the 2LT.

Well they've gone and done it again. If you want the good stuff you suck it up and get the top trim. or go to the competition and that includes getting a Buick instead of a Chevrolet. Damb you GM/ Chevrolet:(:mad::confused:

GM has brand awareness in LTZ. Its been awhile. When you start changing things like this you have to invest $$$ to establish this new nomenclature the buying public. In some cases this is a good thing, like when a particular model is so horribly bad you change the new on the update to avoid bringing brand damage to it. In this case its a change thats not necessary. I am not a 'chevy' buyer, but when I bought my Cruze I knew the LTZ was top of the line. The 2LT IMHO was a mistake, but possibly a way for Chevy to match the 4-5 "trim" models the Foreign makes have. You buy a Civic Trim and have 1 or 2 options vs GM where you pick a trim and then have 50 options.

If you feel that using letters is meaningless then give me an answer on why GM used "Limited" to identify the old out of date model? Limited used to mean something extra special to almost every maker and at Ford still does.

So with the Cruze you can get:

Limited, LS, LS+, LT, Premier

That comes across as a very lame naming nomenclature and change for the sake of change...................

I could see how GM not offering CC on the LS would be annoying to some people. But you have to think.

The vast majority of Cruze models sold in the retail market are the LT and 2LT, that is how GM wants it. The LS is a big fleet trim and honestly I doubt the omission of CC on those models is going to scare the fleet customers away.

IMO its not nearly as big of a deal as some are making it.

OK, so LTZ is stupid, and it is a good thing that it is gone, why then is keeping LT a good idea, and that doesn't even address the fact that you can have 2 cars parked next to each other, both say LT, but optioned different; one being a 1LT and the other a 2LT.

Go to the dictionary and look up the definition of Premiere, yeah it means something alright........... I anticipate GM renaming all the "Limited" trim cars to "Encore" or "Swan Song" soon.

Lincoln actually uses Premiere, along with other names; Premiere 100A, Select 101A, Reserve 102A (and Black Label 800A) - It is the "first" trim model, not the last....... :fall:

Well said, but just for clarification you can get the Cruze Limited in; L, LS, 1LT, ECO, 2LT and LTZ.............. :think:

Incorrect.

2016 Cruze Limited is offered as an L, LS, 1LT, and ECO.

No 2LT, and no LTZ.

If you consider ( NG Cruze / Cruze Limited ) x ( Retail / Fleet ) x ( USA / Canada ) ....... and the point on the timeline..... it all makes ( more than ) usable sense.

Possibly..... even " Clever ". :yup:

< Late Add : The above is incorrect - there are 2016 Cruze Limited 2LTs and LTZs - see below in the thread. >

Likely to deliver good volume - and profit.

Also provides for some quick option change ups for further exploitation - as the situation develops .

Separately, the alleged MT screw over is in practical terms, vastly overstated.
