So I have a 2006 HHR. When I go over bumps, it sounds like the sunroof glass is rattling, it doesn't sound like it's coming from the headliner. I took it into the dealership a few months ago, and they couldn't hear it. Well now it's getting louder, so I took it in, and that dealer said it was my sunglasses in the dash compartment...well, it's not since they've been there forever, and the rattle didn't used to be there...plus I took them out, and it still rattles. Don't know how a sound in the dash would appear to be on the roof....

Anyways, it just seems to be getting louder. Do you think I should be concerned? I have the bumper to bumper warranty until the end of the month since I bought the car certified used. I'm just afraid that the glass is loose, and will either leak soon or need to be replaced, and I know that is costly to fix once out of warranty.

Do you guys think I"m being too nitpicky, or a worry wart? Should I have them look at it again, or just let it be? I'm sure they hate me at the dealer since I've had this car in for so many different clunks and rattles in the front end...

I just repaired my son's sunroof in his 2006 Saturn Vue for a problem rattle. Although not Chevrolet HHR, it is still a GM sunroof.

The glass rattled and there was wind noise. Close inspection revealed one of four Torx screws (T-20 I think) was loose and could be unscrewed with my fingers. The other three screws were slightly loose, and could be tightened about one-half turn. The screw that was very loose could be tightened about 1 - 1 1/2 full turns. Note that when looking at each of the screws from inside the car, it appeared as though they were tight.

Two black screws are located on each side of the glass sunroof frame, visible from inside the car with the sunshade pushed back and the glass sunroof closed.

I slightly pushed up the loose side of the glass and tightened the screw. That eliminated the rattle and the wind noise.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

my g5 does that to. if you go over a bump you will here it. push up on the glass and you will also here it. when the body of the car flexes the sunroof moves. i have brought it back to the dealer a few times for it and they cant seem to fix it. if you don't want to listen to it put it up on the tilt mode or turn the radio up lol that's what i ended yup doing.

Yeah, usually my radio is up loud enough.... But I'm just concerned that it will eventually get really bad, or even start leaking.

And I'll have to go look and see if I can find any screws.... Thanks for the input!

Since you still are in your warranty, I would definitely recommend taking it back to the dealer. If you would like a second opinion, you can always take it to another Chevy dealer, but it is recommended that you continue to work with the original dealer. You can also PM with more information so there will be a record of your concern while under warranty.

Thanks Jared! I will definitely take it back to the dealer. Unfortunately, the dealer I bought from closed a few months after my purchase, so I can't take it there... I've tried different dealers, and the best one I've found is the Buick/GMC dealer in town, Mike Young. They seem to be the friendliest, and most competent.

Beings that I'm only 20, this is a very big purchase, and I plan on keeping this car for many years... I'd really hate for things to start going wrong with it since I take such good care of it.

I had a '08 Cobalt Sport that had the same problem and I can only asume that they are almost the same sunroof. The dealer I bought it from tried fixing it seriously five times. Finally I took it to another dealership and they replaced the sunroof and the car was rattle free 'til the car was totaled. I think that part of the problem, and don't quote my wording but the gasket part of the sunroof is built into the glass, so if that goes bad they have to change the whole glass sunroof part which must be expensive. They gave me a rental car for the 5 days it was out of service so I can't complain.
