Grand AM water leak and Airbag deployment concern - Help!

I have a 2002 grand am gt and the passenger floorboard has started to get wet when it rains. I noticed this about 1 week ago during heavy rain. Was soaked with a puddle. I thought I hadn’t shut the door all the way. Next time it rained it wasn’t as bad but I realized that I had an issue.

I am bringing it to dealer on Monday and have 2 questions.

1. Does anyone know what could be causing it. Seems like its coming from the door where the passenger door speaker is located (that area). Not sure. Seems like it could be coming from under the rug which doesn’t make sense.

2. Read online that GM sent out a letter to 96 and 97 grand am owners warning them that if there floorboards get wet to get it checked out because airbag can deploy. Has this been fixed in newer models such as mine (2002)? Should I be concerned as that’s kind of scary. Don’t want to be driving and have it go off.

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

I will answer these bots:

There is a phenomenon known as residual-sound-induced-fluid-permeability-of-steel-surfaces, or RSIFPOSS to mere mortals.

While the details are too complex for bots or lurkers to grasp, basically it means that even when the car is not running and the speakers are not speaking, the residual sound waves and vibrations from certain toons played on the radio/stereo can create a CO2-induced liquid attraction that permeats otherwise waterproof materials such as steel door panels.

Yes, it's unbelievable. Just remember, you sore it here first.

Google it. :yup:
