Re: Dealership Closing List (letters)

On one of the business shows this morning someone said that 50% of Chrysler's dealerships account for 90% of their sales. Are GM dealerships the same way? If so, maybe there should be some consolidation.
That is what is happening here basically, no more seperate GM and chev store, Chevrolet stores will sell all 4 lines, they are not 'closing' the GM store, actually we are having a hard time getting them to let us merge it....why I really dont know. our store is only 3 years and all the goodies, the GM is like forever old, but in nice shape...

Re: Dealership Closing List (letters)

I think I heard somewhere that about 500 or GM stores sell less than 50 cars a year. All of these stores are likely to be shut down.
If they are in a city then I would agree but if they are rural stores then I would bet they will be left to succeed or fail on their own.
The death of the weakest city stores will lead to bettter profit margins for the remaining stores.
If those remaining stores don't have to advertise such cut throat priceing to compete with each other then their margins should improve and if they bring their prices up a bit they will pull less traffic away from the small towns.
Those small towns will see a bit of a pickup in thier busness in both volume and margin and thus end up healthier as well.

There have always been "full line" dealers that have sold all of GM's brands in one location, Mainline in Watrous comes to mind right away.
I don't think it's going to happen to every store.

Re: Dealership Closing List (letters)

here in midland with around 50k people there is 3 GM stores. A buick jeep store. A pontiac cadillac GMC store and a Chevy store. I would bet that at the end of this the Buick Jeep dealer will no longer sell new vehicles. The jeep will go to the local dodge dealer and the buick will go to the Cadillac GMC dealer.

Which one do you work at?

Re: Dealership Closing List (letters)

They have a strong presence in South Broward county selling mostly Toyota and Honda products. I believe they have a Pontiac GMC Buick store but I may be wrong. Their dealerships are very high end and with very good service. they don't promote themselves as a group though.
Yeah they have toyota 2 acura 2 lexus and a BPG. They are building a new lexus store. I think they are calling it lexus of north miami im told it cost him more then 70 big ones. I think it will be the end of him.

Re: Dealership Closing List (letters)

Here where I live, in the Panhandle of Texas, 15000 souls here and only one new car dealer here, and it is a GM dealership, sells all brands of GM. Nearest one to us is 35 miles away, I hope they don't close this one. There is no Ford dealer here or Dodge, just Country Chevy. If GM makes it you can get it here. Have purchased my last 4 vehicles from them amd my new Malibu was from them also...so last 5 from them, great folks!!!

Most of the dealers have probably already received their letters. However, I doubt they will tell the employees until the very last minute.

Funny, last night driving back home I saw a billboard for Lexus of North Miami with a huge picture of Mr. Craig Zinn himself. Never noticed it before.

Nope.
The only ones that know for sure are the stand alone pontiac dealerships.
Dealer Zone Reps are going to hand deliver the letters "soon", as of yesterday.

Re: Dealership Closing List (letters)

Who are they going to hand them out to? Are the dealerships that receive the letter staying or going? Or when you get a visit are you gone or staying? Does anybody know?

Re: Dealership Closing List (letters)

We spoke to our zone rep this morning and asked what he knew. He said he has no idea he was calling to let us know to consensus for the week. He is like us he would like to know and there was no way he would want to hand deliver the letter.

Not related to this thread exactly.......but very interesting.

Last Friday [May 8] Champion Porsche in Pompano Beach, Fl. filed chapter 11. This is the largest volume Porsche-Audi dealer in the WORLD !!!!!!!!!

Ours wasn't looking forward to it either. He was still pulling for the use of a currier service or registered mail. He said EVERYONE would get a letter, some good, some... well... You know.

Re: Dealership Closing List (letters)

any of you guys know how to find the SIR score or something like that? On globalconnect? this is a score out of 100 that shows how you are meeting the critera for clipping stores IE your sales CSI and capital etc all rolled in to one score. Im told ours is 92 out of 100 but I cannot find it on dealerworld.
