Ford FreeStyle: Good Grief!!!

I can't believe how horrible this car is!!!

Really.... I try to be pretty reasonable about rental cars, but this one has 900 miles, and it's already creaking. Nice to know Ford hasn't gotten rid of those pesky squeaks.

Interior overall is OK. IT's got the typical Ford plastic stereo that has no tactile feel. Buttons plasticky. IP illumination is really dull. Switch gear is nice, but also lacks tactile feel.

What I find unacceptable, are the poor headilghts. VERY poor headights. They don't light up the roads at all.

Power is lousy, but seeing as it's a rental... I guess that's "OK." SO... I wonder if all other Freestyles are better.

I consider this one of the worst cars I've ever driven in my life.

Way harsh. PS- your a staff member!?
Staff members can't have strong opinions? Mgescuro has always called things the way he's seen them and maybe this one is a tough pill to swallow. I've never driven a Freestyle myself but I don't think Mgescuro is making anything up.

Most people have really nothing but good things to say about freestyle...... Last one i checked out was very nice.

"The Ford corprate radio is just trash. I dont like it in any of the cars, its beyond cheap. From the 500 to the Mustang, its all the same garbage. The Black Tie unit in the GM cars blows this away. That ugly 90's green display looks horrible."

Atleast it's less troublesome and sounds better then the GM ones. In design it looks better then the ford but the plastic it's made of looks just as cheap. It's not that much better. It looks even worse since the hvac controls are all like one peice and makes the center stack look poor and super cheap.

Another thing yellow light helps u see better at night (in bad weather) compared to white light

Well... I heard squeaks around the cabin, and the car's only at 1,000 miles.
THe power is unacceptable, but it's a rental, so I'm sure there's a better powerplant... I think. Cause it doesn't feel like 203HP.
The steering is numb, but the steering radius is decent. It's not very responsive.
Brakes are ok in normal operation. But emergency braking in the car (came very close to an accident last nite) leaves a lot to be desired.

Can't tell if the sound is better or not. If anything, it's on par but defintiely not something to write home about.

Guess what... my first 2 nights here in Charlotte.... it was raining... sorry... i got a headache from straining to see. That's how I am totally sure Freestyle's headlights suck.

I have never heard of any GM/Delco unit as being un-reliable, they are bulletproof pieces. So unless you have some kind of basis for that comment, I move to strike.
Did you not see the study j.d power came out with this year and delco being neat the bottm of the list?

I am trying to find the link but with no suck luck.

I have seen plenty of delco units go puff though

Edit" There we go

Why is he even still here

Why are Ford fans so quick to defend such rolling mediocrity?
Actually, I have driven a Freestyle and liked it well enough. The power was by no means good and the seats irritated the pi*& out of me, but other than that I had few complaints. My problem with the seats is that where you would normally expect a seat to recess some toward the bottom of the lumbar area giving something resembling good back support these actually have an annoying lump that feels something like a mild lumbar support feature but six inches to low. It pushed your butt forward into a weird seating position. I am unsure that I could learnt to live with that little problem area and the seats in the Fusion are far and away superior.

Other than this I thought it was pretty good dynamically, especially for it's size. Give this thing the new 3.5L, or better yet a version of the 4.4L V-8 currently used in Volvo's, better seats, (how 'bout we take the Volvo seats from the old S80 too) and I would consider it a steal for the money. I know that the 3.5L is coming, I hope a fix for the seats is coming too.

BTW, the green display of the radio is not what I would call pleasant, but it is an insignificant issue next to other improvements that could be made IMO. And I have never driven one at night so I am not familiar with headlight performance.

A lot of Malibus and Maxxes have come off the line with mis-aimed headlights. Betcha G6s do too. Quite a few folks in Edmund's have realigned the lights themselves - there's a screw or two that you can turn to do it yourself. On the Malibus and Maxxes, they were aimed too high, getting nasty reactions from oncoming drivers. And that would also explain poor illumination of the road. Mine seem OK. Just a thought.

I have a few rattles, but no squeaks. Until today, which pissed me off. Then I remembered I had something in the back seat that was squeaking and not the car.....

The dealership checked and said they were within spec. If anything, they're much too low.
