It sounds like the new Ford Focus lineup is poised to get a little sexier. AutoExpress is reporting that the Blue Oval intends to release a concept coupe version of the newly reworked hatch. Designed to replace the old three-door model elsewhere on the globe, the low-slung ride will take cues from both the Focus ST and ever lust worthy old-school European Capri. The new design is supposedly set to take the stage at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show, meaning that if it makes its way to production, there's a good chance that American buyers will be able to pick one up.
Yes... "concept"...

I'd be in support of calling it Ford Focus Capri.

as I said on FIN, too bad Mercury is gone... would have made a good car for the brand

We can hope. My office is moving downtown and I would be in the market for a smaller daily driver. This would be perfect if it has DCT and 250+hp.

It sure doesn't look like a coupe or 3 door though. The door line looks like it's too far back to only have two doors. Hopefully it will show at the Detroit auto show.

That rendering looks pretty slick

though the way the hatch in the back goes down I could see many complaints for rear head room

^ s'ok, syr74, tho TY for the consideration

afaik, nobody-but-NObody outside F-M-L knows what the C557/Tracer story was - if it ever existed ... even as a sketch**
& if it will be re-positioned under one of the ugly step-sisters ...oops, I mean other Brands

but
imho the 3-door/coupe was always intended to be a Ford (& maybe a Lincoln - for the 'MKE'-RS)

** if there's a lifesize prototype, sheetmetal, fibreglass, papiermaché ... I *want* it!

I really am going to be running salt in the wound this time. A comment about the 2012 Focus from the January issue of Motor Trend............

A Mercury version, rumored to be a two-door hatchback/coupe, was ready when Ford closed the brand (shades of the Edsel Comet).

Motor Trend is often well off base, but this was either an awful good guess or Mercury was going to get a new, Focus-based coupe.

I can't wait to see what the successor to my beloved Focus ZX3 will look like. Who knows? Maybe when it eventually comes time to replace my car many years down the road, I'll end up buying the Focus coupe. Chevrolet blew it by not offering the Cruze hatchback here, and they are discontinuing the HHR, leaving Chevrolet without a proper compact sport hatch.

^ THANKS for the MT link, syr74
but
I'm not buying that

almost exactly a year ago there was a short UAW document on the net (gone now but I saved a copy if you want it) saying:
"...C557 (2012 Mercury sedan) - Bonus vehicle awarded due to C346 (2012 Focus). Job #1 date is end of November, 2010..."

tho as I've said - think it's prudent to not take as gospel ANYthing that's been said about Mercury's Focus-based vehicle ... except that I *wanted* one
