I've been reading C&D for 30 or so years, but I've not paid attention to how often cars get a perfect score (at least in the chassis section) - anyone know if it's a rarefied group getting such a score? I'd assume so being that the RS7 and M5 Comp didn't come close and they certainly are awesome cars.

Rarefied indeed. To get a perfect score of 60 out of 60 in the Chassis category of a C&D comparison test, a car has to meld excellent handling, steering, braking, and ride quality and do so both objectively and subjectively. Very few manage that feat.

AFAIK, 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is the only car to score a perfect 60 in recent comparisons. The 2013 Cadillac ATS 2.0T 6MT that C&D tested in the November 2012 issue came close, scoring a 58 (it got perfect scores in all categories except a 8 in "ride").

Thanks gkr! In other words, this was no hollow victory.

I need to figure out how to get a ride in one of these beasts!

Definitely not, and the points made about a few areas of interior cheapness are valid and needed to keep at least some critical component to the review. Otherwise journalists are honestly falling over themselves to praise the car. Lets be fair, there's some rose-colored views going on because pretty much everyone knows this is the last V8, manual transmission of any type that will likely walk the planet. No one's going to end up caring about that plastic map pocket in the driver's door when they nail a 6-3 heel/toe coming into a sweeping curve somewhere.

Yes - definitely did not nail the metrics in the interior. Though I will say that the interior isn't horrible like some of GM's past duds - it's pretty decent, they could just do more.

I think what we are seeing is that GM nailed the dynamics so well that reviewers will overlook shortcomings. That didn't happen as much with, say the ATS-V. Tremendous vehicle, but the engine sound wasn't great (per the reviews I read) - they didn't nail the dynamics quite as well, and because of that the dynamics couldn't get the reviewers past other shortcomings - CUE, the interior in general and the back seat.

Though as an ATS and now a CT4-V owner I can say GM did a lot more work on the luxury side vs. my ATS that I think may have been oriented to much toward sport at the expense of luxury.
