Half the internet is asking WHY Cadillac is still selling the XTS. It's Cadillac's best selling car. Why would they kill it?
However, in May, it was tne worst selling sedan by Cadillac.

1. ATS 1273
2. CT6 1001
3. CTS 854
4. XTS 778

Did sales for XTS slow because people knew this update was coming?

Half inch on either side, probably. A nip and tuck.

Because it's priced like a CTS and sized like a CT6.

I don't know what the best thing for them would be, and I've waffled. Can it stick around? It can't with CTS and CT6. One of those three has to go, and any way you slice it, CT6 needs to grow in price and size to give anything beneath it room to breath or to be able to justify its own existence.

If XTS goes, CT6 needs a price bump because there's too much overlap on CTS (or CTS needs to lower its pricing, which presents its own problems).
If CTS goes, CT6 needs to be bigger and offer a higher-end experience to put some air between it and XTS.

Best move for Cadillac is probably a Lexus-like strategy, as in Lexus's likely future strategy.

Kill CTS, keep XTS, grow ATS and give it a coupe/cab, keep and grow CT6 with higher end variants, bring in higher end coupe. A CT6-L wouldn't be a bad idea.
Keep Escalade, bring in another Escalade-branded BOF like GX, keep XT5, bring in an "XT5-L," bring an "NX" in XT4, and a "UX" in XT2.

Sports car because you can draw upon your resources at greater GM.
I agree there are to many cars in the middle BUT do NOT agree with your re alignment

IMHO ATS-L replaces ATS create an ATS sport as the SWB IF required

CTS and XTS go away

CT6 comes down to CTS/XTS pricing to "double tap" those two cars buyers

that leaves room for a CT8 to be positioned ABOVE the CURRENT CT6 position

doing it like this is PARTLY to mis align with the German 3 and to REMOVE the "but a BMW offers" OR "it is a 5 series for" ETC and being AMERICAN they DO NOT need to FIT in European sedan sizes and can offer American sized comfort

one "concern" I have with this presser for the XTS is the amount of TIME spent on "front seat luxury" and NOT "INTERIOR LUXURY" so the one model aimed at passengers AND drivers is ONLY improved for the driver?

I know this is going to sound cliche but XTS really needs a break down of retail vs fleet. I know it was posted here a few weeks ago saying something insane like 70 or 80% fleet but I would like to see some hard numbers of that to know for sure.

The front seats are always going to be much better than the rear.
In addition, the upgrade to Platinum seats is not insignificant.

If they're livery fleets, it's good business.

What? I've asked on this website for a 3 row CUV from Cadillac since 2009. When the new SRX came out and was only two rows. I was ridiculed here and told the Escalade fit the bill. It doesn't.

"before you know it" came and went 8 years ago and counting.

I am not a vehicle expert, but 8 years ago I knew what people wanted and where the industry was headed. Those tired excuses went away 8 years ago.

I owned 3 Cadillacs starting in my mid-late 20's. Cadillac's dream to get a 27 year old with 2 Cadillacs in the driveway. I've moved on from Cadillac.
Well in 18 months or so, you'll get your wish with the XT6 (I think they'll save XT7 for something more expensive) and I have a hunch you're going to like it. 🤔

Deletion of five LPO accessories:
(WCN) CD optical drive
It appears the glove box CD has bit the dust.
So, it may have to be a CPO '17.

Looks much better than before, which isn't very difficult to do (I've never hidden that I don't like the stance of the XTS, but they have done a good job with this update of camouflaging its ungainliness).
That's always what fascinates me about this car. It has hopelessly off proportions. It's tall, the nose is stubby, very FWD. And l-o-n-g. Odd car. But it's always worked well, it manages to look very lux and sleek. I like it a lot - but it took some getting used to.

I'm very curious to see what it looks like with the shortened front end. In the photos, it looks great.

Love this car overall, and a worthy update. Except for the 6-speed problem. Let's hope they'll direct to a 9- or 10-speed.

He said he moved on from Cadillac..he was waiting from 2009. Probably get tired of it:D

When manufacturer keep telling people to just wait a little longer and that wait is 5,10 or even more years..they go to another manufacturer.

This is similar thing going on with a v8.

Does updated infotainment support a CD player?
WCN on the CTS is the glove box plug. I expect that this is also the same.
Maybe Cadillac should go look again at the German competition they love to ape in so many ways.
Just about all of them still have that little slot in the dash.

Taking away features is not a good way to stand out. It's doubly foolish when that feature costs them next to nothing.

Technology moves on.. Should they still offer a cassette deck too? How about an 8 track? CB radio was a Cadillac radio option in 1980.

I retired my CDs when I converted them into iTunes 15 years ago or whenever it was. XM and Sirius satellite radio replaced the (generally dreadful) terrestrial radio about the same time. Streaming and Apple Car Play connect is the new paradigm, at least for me.. I have no interest in going backwards.

I couldn't care less if you retired your CD's. It's still a long ways from dead tech.

Other luxury automakers have not moved on from CD. They still offer it all over the place.
Cadillac is the outlier here and it screams cost cutting. A luxury car should not scream cost cutting and details matter.
It's especially absurd because were talking a plug in the glove box here. It doesn't actually even come with the CD player.
They had to be making some really good money by making it an accessory by charging $275 for the box.

I'm not a fan of the deletion of Magnetic Ride Control on the two lower trim lines either.
That is not something that cost nothing. Is there a corresponding price reduction? Doubt it!

iTunes may be getting dead quicker than CDs, it's getting superseded by streaming. Sirius/XM plain sucks.

Steve Jobs got rid of optical drives on MacBooks 5 years ago.. That was controversial at the time, but the world didn't come to an end.

Accept it

It's dead tech, and the world has moved on.

You mean like vinyl? Oh, wait...

I don't care what Steve Jobs did. I don't even own anything of his.
40 million CD sales last year, far from dead. CD and vinyl have already outlived MP3 will outlive all of these other new technologies too.
People will always want to possess music in a physical format.

I just checked on CTS pricing for a friend. Zero corporate incentives listed. Apparently 800 in a month is just fine with JDN.
High ATPs trumping volume I guess.

I get it, I'm the same way with Xbox games, I prefer a physical disk over a download.

But there's no denying physical format for virtually anything that can be downloaded and stored digitally is a dying breed. Not dead yet by any means, but definitely in decline.

I'm 25 years old and the last time I bought an actual music CD was 10 years ago. There are people alive today who have never listened to music from a CD, ever.
