https://www.autoblog.com/2021/01/07/2021-jeep-grand-cherokee-l-three-row-reveal/#slide-2287772This is a big year for Jeep SUVs, and we mean that quite literally. Not only is it launching a full-size SUV in the form of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, the Grand Cherokee midsize SUV is being completely redesigned and expanded, both in model offerings and physical size. That comes courtesy of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L, a lengthened version of the upcoming SUV that comes with a third row of seats, a first for the model.

This new Grand Cherokee L, and the two-row version that will follow later this year, are built on a completely new platform not used by any current product, nor the upcoming Wagoneer's full-size, truck-based platform. As with every Grand Cherokee before it, it has a unibody chassis. About 60% of it is composed of high-strength steel, and aluminum is used for the hood, hatch, shock towers and front subframe, all of which is to help keep weight down.
If it didn't have the 3rd row it would look more like the current versionInterior is great, but I am disappointed in the exterior. Current version looks muscular, strong. This version doesn't have that look; this new version (to me) looks like many others on the market, boring, bland. Just my opinion. Each to his own.
I agree. Give me the old exterior with some modest updates and this interior.Interior is great, but I am disappointed in the exterior. Current version looks muscular, strong. I thought I read somewhere it say 19 cu ft with seats up and almost 50 with down. What’s the cargo area behind the 3rd row? With 3 kids and a dog that’s literally all we care about. Does it have enough room for our stuff on a trip?
The two row version comes later, also hybrid. If it didn't have the 3rd row it would look more like the current versionInterior is great, but I am disappointed in the exterior. $10 says there will be a sport model with blacked out trimThe pictures posted show a very nice looking vehicle - inside and out. I’m glad they didn’t go with the current fad of blacking out most of the trim on the exterior, so the vehicles look like test-mules or a cheap, low-end model.
And the obligatory black wheels I like to hate sort of.$10 says there will be a sport model with blacked out trim![]()
Its Co-Developed with Jeep Engineers using the Stelvio as a Base. this is similar to how the previous Grand Cherokee was Co-Developed with Mercedes with Jeep leading the project.Would Jeep buyers see it as a plus or minus that this new GC is based on the Alfa Romeo Giorgio (Giulia and Stelvio) platform?
I saw one of these in the wild, it does look very dramatic, predictable, a person of Asian descent was driving it.Jeeps aren’t flavor of the month styled. They’re more classic and they tend to age very well. Not as flashy but handsome.
Not saying the Genesis isn’t very nice but they are going for different goals.
I think the Explorer looks really great in person, ow that I am seeing the, around. This looks premium, however, looking good, I will have to see it in real life. It's quite attractive and distinctive, although I think it may look better in person than in some of these images. The rear-end is the most awkward bit with the low and small license plate surround and the waterfall roofline detail borrowed from Compass. The interior is very nice, nothing too dramatic, but far better than Explorer. I personally find the Explorer's more dramatic sporting proportions and styling more attractive, but Jeep beats it on class by miles (at least in these top-trim configurations).
Grand Cherokee will likely replace Explorer as the best-selling midsize SUV in the US with this dual-size approach...which is actually something of an old idea in midsize SUVs.
still looks better on the outside than Bentayga - that's a strange feeling, somehow I wish I could call every Bentley or Rolls beautiful but I just can'tthe Genesis is a bloated and tacky monstrosity in my eyes.
Was there any doubt? We knew the next Gen was coming in two wheelbases/lengths. The only thing I wasn't sure about was if the new I6TT was going to debut in this or not. Probably better if they stagger that launch anyway. Get a Hemi before they are gone!! I an going to give this a strong look.Yeaaaaah, so a non-L will still be around, and the V8 too! I was getting a little concerned cause we are new to a '19 GC V8 and we love it. My wife calls it her 'red rocket'. We wouldn't want or need the L. Glad they are still going to do a 2-row.
I really like Explorer, now that the quality issues are out of the way, I can look at it way more fondly. The Explorer doesn't look like a bloated family hauler like the rest, and for me that is a hugely important differentiator.I think the Explorer looks really great in person, ow that I am seeing the, around. This looks premium, however, looking good, I will have to see it in real life.
For a practical family hauler, the Traditional FWD based vehicles might be better though, not as cool, but more space.. etc..
Prices though will be the determining factor of sales.. lack good options in the mid 40’s range.. and it’s dead
