this all-new 2018 Lincoln Navigator is also very good. It's distinctive, capable, and competent in ways that will stand up well in the upper echelon of the SUV hierarchy. And we'll get this out of the way now: it's far superior to its primary competitor, the Cadillac Escalade.

...

The Black Labels look and feel special, making the nearly $100,000 price tag for a Navigator seem far more justified than the rather laughable, similarly priced Escalade. However, the same can be said for lesser, cheaper versions. Perhaps the Navigator lacks the refinement of a Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class or a Range Rover – there's still a bit too much noise along with the aforementioned ride – but given its space, performance, style and enormous features list, this is a Lincoln flagship that can finally compete with the big boys.

The 2018 Lincoln Navigator has turned a page. It’s no longer an also-ran. Leaping from the back of the segment to the front, it will undoubtedly be noticed by consumers and the competition. With it coming so far, you can’t help but root for it to go the next step, too, and really knock the other guys back on their heels. Regardless, it doesn’t detract from what Lincoln has accomplished. The new Navigator isn’t just light years better than the old one. It’s also a serious contender for class leader, and that’s no small feat.

Lolz.

Wow, they did their homework! JDN - you reading all this?

And I like the interior, much better than that bag of discongrouos parts that make up the overdone Continental. I'm not crazy over the exterior, but I'm sure not everyone likes the Escalade exterior either (which I like)....
Yeah, like this much more than the Continental. I am quite impressed. I am surprised and delighted at the attention to detail, I did not see that coming. The reviews seem to be very positive and agree with that thought.:

I seriously disliked the wheels when they made the "concept" and still dont like them. They are just bad. It really takes away from the clean profile they gave the truck.

It's going to be interesting to see how the buying public jumps on this. Navigator has long been a has been so by keeping the name they really need to wade through the bad history and sell the new one.

I personally find the Navigator attractive and the interior class leading. The wheels are original so some might be put off at first. Double overhead cam turbocharged V6 and 32 valve V8 with fully independent rear suspension, makes the Escalade seem like an antiquated lumber wagon in comparison.

can anyone tell me where those American reviewers see the refinement in this interior? I neither see it on pictures nor I feel it when I am inside of GLS. The padded glove-box and upper-part of door panels are a nice touch but center console, buttons, switches, A/C vents, LCD screen looking like a tablet are all far from refined-looking. Meanwhile the Navigator's interior looks classy. At least in pictures.

Also take note JDN:
The new interior is a knockout. It’s wholly unique and derivative of nothing. As much as the new Volvo interior design is unreservedly Scandinavian, the Navigator’s design is unmistakably and unabashedly American.
That's what I want to read about every new Cadillac!

While this forum is generally an enjoyable place to take in a variety of opinions of the full range of automotive product I have to admit it's at it's most enjoyable when Ford/Lincoln actually do something right! The kneejerk haterade from a select few increases in direct proportion to how well a Ford/Lincoln product is reviewed. I hope Lincoln continues to struggle even if only out of concern for the mental health of a few posters.

I always love how a situation unfolds like this. FOMOCO introduces a new product like the Navigator, it's direct competitor is the now 4 year old Escalade. Why is anybody surprised its a better vehicle? Why would one dispute this? Again, a fresh product sure in the he!! better be superior than its aged competition or the company making it may as well shut the doors. Throw Lincoln a bone here, they did a great job and it FINALLY gives the Escalade a real threat from its domestic rival.

GM must be worried about Navigator:

For car shoppers with an eye on Ford Motor Co.’s new Navigator SUV — or any Lincoln, for that matter — General Motors Co. is offering a $5,000 discount to make them think twice.

The nationwide deal on GM’s Cadillac Escalade sport utility vehicles this month applies to any buyer trading in a 1999 or newer Lincoln model, according to a memo sent to dealers and obtained by Bloomberg News. Jim Cain, a GM spokesman, confirmed its authenticity.

I would be. I'd be soiling my K-Mart shorts if I were GM.

I don't expect the Nav to overtake the Escalade or even come close, but a misstep? Whither on the vine too long? Release an ugly model with poor quality materials? Reliability issues? Couple a better Nav with an XT7/8 and the Escalade will have its balls in a vice.

I see Lincoln playing the long game with the Navi; the Assassin's Mace strategy.

Are you joking? This monstrosity makes the Pontiac Aztec look decent. The wheels are atrocious, the grill is comical even by Ford standards, and the headlights don't even lineup with the bodyline. Only the most dyed in the wool Ford apologist would say this thing looks anything other than hideous. It's a hot mess.
