Looks good IMO, should be a fun ride. Success will depend on price though. Those hardcore badge shoppers won't touch this, but wannabe hopefuls could be swayed to this if it falls more in line with Buick or Acura pricing and a good lease deal could be had. Otherwise if all things are equal, why you would choose this over a BMW or Merc?
Exactly, pricing and lease deals will have to be the driving force because everything else about the car is very plain. A&S looks really good right now.

Wonder why they don't angle it toward the driver a wee bit? Or give it a swivel.
Not to make the passenger feel like a second-class citizen? Dunno.

Quilting is typically reserved for very high end cars... Think S65 AMG, any recent Bentley, etc.
Not any more. You can get seats with quilting in entry-level vehicles from others too (e.g., the Designo packages on the MB C-class and GLC).

Otherwise, nice "boring" layout which is meant as a huge compliment. Actual knobs and buttons for critical functions for volume/tuning and HVAC controls.

Overall, a very nice looking package that will likely undercut the competition on price and service costs.
Who reserved quilting for very high end cars? I am not picking on you, I just think outside of Lexus and Bentley which are old peoples cars, Quilting is out of place in an automobile.

A very good interior for the entry level luxury sedan. I'm impressed.
I agree. The exterior is a bit busy + an amalgamation of other manufacturers design elements, but actually looks decent despite that. I thing the interior looks pretty good for the price point.

Used to be reserved for ultra luxury, but like most things, has trickled down to the masses. I think its fine in a Lux trim level/package and can look good if done right. If done cheaply, it can look gimmicky.

It looks like a mish mash of other manufacturers designs if you ask me. I like the profile and agree that the front has too much going on, it doesn't looks bad but a bit to much. The interior and that dash sucks IMO, I cant stand those stand up erect screen things.

I actually like the profile a lot. The back is fine, but the badges seem somehow out of place. The front is bad. The grille is awful, and the radar cruise control window sticks out like a sore thumb. Why more automakers don't hide it behind a badge, like Cadillac does, is beyond me.

I actually think this car will be a significantly harder sell than its bigger brothers. The compact sport-luxury segment is almost ALL about image and young people trying to show they're "arrived." Very few care much about how the car drives relative to the other cars in the class.

i suspect you can much more easily sell a G80 or G90 to older folks who are less image conscious, more "sensible" and who appreciate the value advantage. They want a nice car and aren't trying so hard to impress anyone. Most people shopping in the G70 class are primarily looking to impress others. It's going to be a while before Genesis has the image to do it.

Re: Genesis G70 Is Korea’s 3 Series Fighter

Couldn't quite put my finger on it until I saw the two gray pictures. I get a strong Maserati vibe. Maybe not so much from the rear taillights but, for me, definitely the front view and the rear deck lid.

Just another snap-together-plastic piece of crap from Hyundai. I would NEVER buy one regardless of price or performance. There's a reason Hyundai is able to undercut the competition in price. That "reason" is not necessarily prominent when viewing a brand new vehicle, but given a year or so of use, the "reason" becomes blatantly obvious.
,
I'm not trying to offend anybody who owns a Hyundai, and, to be honest, I had a much higher regard for Hyundai prior to my being in my current position. But after seeing that Hyundai wins the contest for most repossessed vehicle for our company, and the condition (variable ownership care notwithstanding), Hyundai/Kia are the very LAST vehicle I would consider for purchase. I used to think that they were on par with their other Asia counterparts, but, they aint.

I would be remiss if I didn't point out that Hyundai is not the ONLY culprit. EVERYBODY, including my beloved GM, is putting out crap that looks good on the surface, but beneath that surface is a myriad of molded plastic covered in some material to make it look nice. Like most abs plastics, eventually it succumbs to the sun and **** breaks.

We get a fair share of Ford Fusions and Chevy Cruzes, as well as higher line models of all makes, and I gotta tell ya, I'm highly disappointed in both of them. But it doesn't stop there. Want a REAL piece of crap? Buy a VW Jetta, or BMW 5 series, or whatever. Audi? So overrated that I couldn't begin to explain the rippoff this line poses.

Sorry to go off on a rant, but just a few short years ago, Hyundai really made some solid cars once they got past the fiasco that was the '86 Hyundai Excel. Now, they are merely putting lipstick on pigs and selling to customers no one else will finance.

Oh, and we currently have a Sonata Hybrid that the owner vollantarilly surrendered with only 76k miles. The engine/generator made so much weird noises that we were afraid to drive it to the auction, putting it on a flatbed instead. Another regular Sonata, made weird clicking noises as the steering wheel was turned back and forth. I'm simply amazed that Hyundai offers a ten year, 100k warranty on these pos's.

It sounds like your work puts you in contact with the most neglectful irresponsible owners. That some of their cars are junk after one year surprises you?

Go to the boards. EVERY car has mechanical issues.

Now why would ONE Sonata owner surrender his vehicle because it made weird noises? At 76,000 miles? You don't mention the MY, or if there were ANY maintenance records.
Maybe he hadn't been in for maintenance for a year or two?

Believe it or not, there are some utter ninnies out there who have no business walking within 10' of a motor vehicle, never mind owning, leasing, or driving one.

I can appreciate your POV but you are a snapshot, you are not the big picture. As I've said numerous times, our family has had seven KIA products and I've had numerous GM and ChryCo products over the past 10 years.

Guess what? The KIAs were all trouble free with one exception which was easily fixed under warranty at about eight years into the ownership process. The GM and Chrysler products had an assortment of niggling issues, some of which required many trips back to the incompetent dealership and which were either never corrected or got repaired, eventually, due to blind bull luck, because the B/GMC "service" department missed the most obvious and easiest fix the first few trips through. BTW, their recommendation was "forget AM radio, it's on its way out. Use sat!"

The B/GMC "service" department was arrogant and haughty. As well as incompetent.
I found a GM Case Manager 800 number, and after we talked, those sheetbirds apparently found a whole new attitude toward customer service.

Keep preaching, you will reach some True Believers but with our personal experience over a decade you have not convinced me of anything.

You and I are thinking alike as this was pretty much my first reaction to pont3's posts or rant. The owner care and maintenance has a lot to do with it. Heck even the most finely crafted Rolls would be like a POS in no time if it were treated like the so called average clapped out beater.

Not to keep taking the thread in a different direction, but over the past 15 years, a little more than half of our cars have been GM Vehicles, a Dodge in there, a Kia, a few Mazdas...

The Kia so far has zero problems. The Mazdas were pretty good (4 recent mazda vehicles, only 1 trip for a warranty repair.) The Dodge (Avenger), ZERO problems. Our Sonic didn't have any...our Malibu had a couple...and our Saturn Vue? in the double digits for problems (a few years ago I documented them all in a thread on here).

My Mother is on her 3rd Sonata right now and I don't think she has had any problems with any of them. My father just got into a brand new Malibu from an Equinox...and the Equinox was at the dealer a few times.

As others have said, any one person may be a snapshot of a brand...but from my experience the Kia and Dodge have the least problems, followed closely by the Mazda...and our GM Vehicles have been the worst.

Cadillac needs a new ATS like yesterday. They at least need a complete overhaul of the ATS interior and front/rear clips.
Yeah..new ATS (CT5 i think) is coming in..what 2 more years or something like that...in the meantime there will be Genesis G70, Alfa Romeo Giulia, new BMW 3, updated Mercedes C,maybe new Infiniti Q50 class in this segment...at present moment sales number for ATS and CTS are going down...i just hope Cadillac is aiming high with next CT5. And who knows when CT5-V is coming (if it comes).
