2017 Tahoe & Concerns with DOD engine oil usage with increased age/mileage

Taking delivery of a 2017 Chevy Tahoe Premier at the end of the month. I am concerned about using OEM oil vs an aftermarket full synthetic. My concerns stem from our experience with our 2009 suburban which until it was traded in on a 2016 suburban LTZ was using nearly a quart of oil at around 5000 mile. We were using mobile 1 full synthetic. The dealer said this was normal for DOD (Displacement on Demand) engines since the inactive cylinders need lubrication and oil loss was a normal consequence of the DOD engine operation as the vehicle ages. We have been using the OEM oil on the 2016 suburban which with 20k miles had shown no oil loss. We keep our vehicles for 7 to 9 years and accumulate 140k to 180k miles. We want the best lubrication protection for these vehicles. Any suggestions or experiences are appreciated

I am looking for the best protection from a lubricant fior the engine. If OEM is the best fine . I know some
Swear by amsoil , rotella , etc. I am concerned about the durability of the DOD engines long term given my experience with our 2009 suburban and oil usage . Hopefully the new Tahoe /suburban engines are better.

Just use a good synthetic. The engine will still use some oil (all of them do) but you need something that protects better from fuel wash from the direct injection. Lots and lots of discussions about it on bobistheoilguy forums. HEad there if you want real information.

I've had the oil changed by the dealer on all of my K2XX trucks, haven't had a problem yet.

You only keep them for 1 maybe 2 oil changes.

OEM oil is full synthetic. Just stick with the Dexos certified oils and you will be fine. There isn't a systemic oil consumption problem with these engines like there was early on with the previous Gen.

If its the ACDelco Dexos oil it specifically states that it is a synthetic blend.
