If the new Cruze hits the market in spring 2016, they should call it a 2017 model.
Unless regarding CAFE it plays into their hand to call it a 2016, albeit a short run.

------------------------------

When they first announced the Cruze Limited was also going to sell retail it didn't make sense to me, but if the new one is that late, it is completely understandable.

Additionally, if the next (NEW) Cruze was going to be a 2017, they could have just called the old 2016 Cruze Limited a 20016 Cruze, and switched to Limited if it was going to again be offered for 2017 MY, but they didn't so that supports the argument that the new Cruze is also going to be a 2016. :yup:

I still think its funny, at Ford Limited means 10-grand more, at GM it means yesterday's breakfast, "on-sale" get it before it is gone!

GM must be trolling Ford

There is a lot of price gap between the current LTZ Cruze and the Focus Titanium and Mazda 3S. Both of those can be run up to more than $31K and the LTZ can barely crest $27K. Motor Trend just closed out their long-term 2014 Mazda 3S test. That vehicle was over $31K new and they positively gushed over it despite a back seat they admit is for car seats and small children only (and makes the Cruze look like a limo by comparison) and some annoying tech glitches over its test period. I guess great handling does get car mag kudos after all, despite some other flaws.

The old Cruze as a Limited model is still head and shoulders above the pack and if they can sell it with a few thousand dollars savings it should prove to be a winner. I bet those fleet LT1's will be under $19K delivered with fleet incentives. If the retail versions can settle around $20K, that could hit a sweet spot. Toyota sells a ton of crap Corollas on the low price (and rumored reliability).

Top notch reliability for Corolla isn't a rumor. Both the current generation (E160) and previous generation (E150) cars sold in the U.S. market consistently had above average reliability scores.

Cruze, by comparison, has among the lowest reliability ratings in its class. At least for the gasoline powered model (I don't know how Cruze 2.0TD would rank due to insufficient data).

i liked the honey comb grille front end better, the horizontal slots are too formal looking. glad GM is trying to old trick of keeping older models in production with the cruze, its a nice car. will be great on the used market later and for more parts for owners.

The thing with the Corolla is that even though it is brand new, its still " Old as Methuselah . "

I tell people all the time that GM should just stop with the forward progress and adding innovative tech to their compact car and essentially just go back to the platform and workings of the 2004 Cavalier. Then, and only then can they truly compete with a Corolla. Why give customers a better product when sales of the Toyota suggest that they are happy with a ****box?

And just because someone is dead doesn't make them a nice person. And a vehicle loaded with "features" doesn't make it "better".

Using older platforms and mechanicals doesn't equal a car being a ****box. I'll bet people blowing turbos and "forward progress" DI engines and cutting edge transmissions are cursing the day they decided they "needed" the latest and greatest features on their new car.

I'll take a yester-tech water pump that doesn't leak, an ignition switch that works as designed, an engine that doesn't mysteriously lose coolant over innovative tech any day of the week.

Being a Beta tester for manufacturers throwing high technology at their products to produce EPA #s won't happen with my money.

Looked at a bunch of '16s on the lot yesterday. Interestingly, there is no "limited" badging on it anywhere...

For most people, the Corolla = penalty box. The cheapest of the cheap. So, you bought too much house... sucks to be you!!!

The Cruze runs rings around it feature-wise, and really is not a competitor much any more. Onward and upward. Oh, the Corolla never got the message... boo-hoo!

Tell us again how Toyota is a part of the American fabric, while you send profits home to Japan. REALLY. The emperor has no clothes. The lie is over.

Did it say Limited on the Window Sticker?

Seems like this is going to create confusion when the new one shows up.
Easy fix that was a hit years ago with the Camaro ; call it 2016 1/2. Hell I remember one year the Corvette completely skipped a year and stupid people still were able to get soup their mouths.

Hells Bells all they gotta do is look at the two cars, anybody in their right mind knows what the old Cruze is because it's been around so long and the new one is completely different. Who cares what the year number/badge says.:D

Exactly. No big deal here.
