Agreed -- and the new Colorado styling just doesn't work. Looks too "soccer mom."
The styling for Chevy trucks has been on a slide for the past decade. They are all
nasty and over-chromed at this point.

Chevy trucks are a bad joke currently -- not a shock why their sales are sliding.

At least Ford isn't rebadging a Nissan for its compact van.
Thankfully GMC didn't botch the styling, either.
Quick points:

1) The new Colorado is pretty sweet, to anyone who isn't a hater

2) The new styling of the Chevy trucks is actually a home-run, to, you guessed it, people who aren't haters

3) The Chevy trucks are a serious commentary on to state and needs of the truck buyer of the current decade. Not a shock as to why their sales are sliding considering the new HDs weren't even on the lots these past few months. Considering they contribute about 25-30% of the sales.. Big WOW. Oh, and only haters will try and ignore it

4) How the EFF, did the Chevy City Express get into this conversation?

I have always owned GM vehicles and I currently drive a 11 Silverado. I agree that the styling of the Silverados has been on a slide. The word "conservative" is being used as an excuse for a truck that looks boring and awkward. I am sure that it is a good truck but I have no reason to test drive one because I would never own one. I would like a GM exec to park their new Chevy truck next to the current generation half ton Ram or F150 and tell me with a straight face that the Chevy is better looking from any angle inside or out. This design has and will cost GM. I agree that the Ford SDs are fugly.

And I can't wait to see the 'official' tow and load rating numbers when the big 3 FINALLY start using the standardized ratings (2015 now is it?). GM has always low-balled (or rather, been realistic) compared to Dodge, and definitely Ford... IMHO
The Standardized testing does not include anyone's HD pickups only the half tons.

You have an 2011 and you think the 2014's are awkward looking? Lol. Seriously? By the way, the new Chevy trucks look better than the competition at EVERY angle.

I saw a new HD silverado for the first time on Tuesday. The look a lot better in reality than in pictures. The one I saw was an lt 4x4, I would bet though the z71 grille probably looks better.

I really like the Silverado in Z71 trim; classic and sporty. Only thing I wish the Z71 Silverado had, is the wheel well inserts like the Sierra. I think they provide nice protection from debris when off-roading.
+1 the Z71 is the best option for looks other than the MASSIVE chrome badge they stick on the fender of the Sierra. My only concern with the rubber trim is that if its not sealed properly or after a few years it will hold water and dirt against the steel and eventually cause rust.

The Colorado might be the vehicle that gets me back into a Chevy.

EDIT: A new Trailblazer would easily seal the deal.

I actually like the Silverado. It looks classic.
It harkens back to the pre-1999 design. IMO the all-time best looking trucks. But they didn't take it far enough. I like how the gen 5 Camaro apes the 1969s, they should've given the Silverado the same treatment... if that makes any sense.

I checked out a 1/2 ton GMC a few months ago, VERY nice. I'm just a bit disappointed at GM sending this thing out half-baked... the old 6.0 gas v-8? No H.D. version of the Gen 3 engine? Just sad that the 5.3 just about matches the power of the 6.0. I think GM missed the mark on that one, and should have something to answer Ram's HD 6.4 gasser...
Other than that, this IS the class leader. And I can't wait to see the 'official' tow and load rating numbers when the big 3 FINALLY start using the standardized ratings (2015 now is it?). GM has always low-balled (or rather, been realistic) compared to Dodge, and definitely Ford... IMHO
Nobody has dared run gasoline DI on HD vehicles yet, and I think that is for good reason. They can hardly keep the oil off of the valves in the LD trucks, but the harsh environment of a towing rig would likely overtax the oil separators in the PCV system. The last thing you'd want to happen in a towing rig is to lose power because your valves are coked up. If that started happening, then they would start losing customers in droves, and they may never come back.
Unless GM is going to create a port fuel injected version of the GEN V's for the HD's (the new engines are GEN V BTW), the 6.0L is likely here for a bit longer.

It's amazing how much better the Chevrolet's styling is to me when it's on the higher stance and suspension of the HD trucks.

A Silverado HD with the 6.0L engine is probably a very stout, reliable truck. I'll tempted to go check one out in a couple of years when I need a new vehicle. If you want something durable for 8-10+ years, that 6.0L doesn't have AFM and is more than adequate for 99% of what people use their trucks for.

If the Gen V engines are good enough to tow 12k pounds in a light duty, they should be more than adequate for heavy duty use.
Have they fixed the oil consumption and associated problems with the AFM in the half ton trucks? What have they done to correct it?

The AFM (or whatever they have branded it now) would be a huge deal breaker for me. My 5.3L has been having problems since it turned over 70,000 miles. GM kept the truck for a week, but their fix did absolutely nothing. I'm hearing a very distinct pinging sound from the engine when in 4 cylinder mode now.

I really wish they had at least one engine without it in the light duty trucks. Durability and reliability were major selling points for the small blocks that gave them an advantage over Ford in my eyes. That advantage no longer exists. That's just one of the reasons the new half tons don't appeal to me. I don't associate GM small blocks with quality anymore.....at least nothing with the AFM system.

Amen to that. I wouldn't touch a Chevrolet truck post 2002 lookswise. The quality on both was subpar though for about the same time length. The GMC's look great but I won't drive GM-GMC. They should have kept both trucks looking the same so the Chevy's didn't look so ridiculous from 03 forward. Gave the Silverado a nicer Platinum/Denali interior etc. It's funny reading this article. Pretty sad when the first thing and most positive attribute is the Silverado actually has a decent interior now. Even so, it still isn't that great. And it looks like a rolling brick with round pegs in square holes. No class or sophistication at all. "Hey let's make it bigger and more square"! No thanks. My Super Duty looks tough And sophisticated. Round wheel wells, Platinum trim and all. Chevrolet has gone down the tubes Corvette aside.

At least Ford isn't rebadging a Nissan for its compact van.
I read that. Sad for Chevy.

I wouldn't even qualify what I said as being a hater.

Styling is completely subjective -- as a former Colorado owner, I just don't
like the styling of the new one. I just think Chevy styling is going in the
wrong direction.

I have migrated from Chevy truck to GMC over the past decade as my favorite.
I'd much rather have the GMC version across the board for GM's entire
truck lineup.

I'd just rather have the GMC Sierra SLT across the board. Saw one the other Bronze Alloy Metallic the other day and
nearly needed to change my shorts. It looks that damn good. Then I got the sticker shock, it bases at $41,860. Holy crap,
twice what I paid for my nicely optioned last-gen Colorado (for the base SLT). Another year of saving, I guess.
