Wow, Nissan's dying to lose some serious coin getting this thing established.

Too bad it looks like an anteater.
That was my initial thought. There is no way on Earth, Nissan is making a profit with the Leaf being sold at a $32k price point. Absolutely, positively, not possible. The battery in that car has to be at least $15k.

It looks like a car. Not sure what all the hubbub is about. Then again, I like me some cute little hatchbacks.

There's a market for a pure EV that isn't just some glorified golf cart. While the Volt is totally great for what it is (hell, I think I'd love to have a Volt if the opportunity ever arose) it's not a pure EV. It's a HYBRID.

I'm sure people may cross-shop the Volt and the Leaf, and the Volt comes out on top as a mainstream car because it has a gas generator, allowing you to take it out on longer trips. The Leaf is limited by its 100 mile range, but it is useful for many people who don't need to travel more than that much of the time. IMO though, the biggest thing holding back EVs is the infrastructure. For now, however, I think this will be a fine car that can grow its niche.

One thing people seem to be missing is that you -can- purchase this car. It's mentioned right in the PR. This isn't some sort of lease-only deal like the EV1 was.

Reasonable Price, but my God is it ugly. Why do asian companies think anything that has to do with being efficient has to look all bubbly and feminine? I don't care what its mechanical qualities are I just couldn't be seen even riding in this thing.
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO AGREES WITH ME

JUST LIKE THE prius THE leaf IS UGGGGGGGGGLY!!!!! JUST LIKE THE civic THE leaf IS UGGGGGGGLY!!!! JUST LIKE THE focus THE leaf IS UGGGGGGGGLY!!!!!!! JUST LIKE THE beetle, gti,THE smart car and impreza THE leaf IS UGGGGGGGGLY!!!! BOTTOM LINE THIS IS AN UGLY CAR!!! 1NCE AGAIN PPL HAVE TO SACRIFICE PERFORMANCE AND STYLE FOR M.P.G THE HELL WITH M.P.G IF U CANT HAVE FUN AND BE PROUD OF THE CAR U'RE DRIVING THAN WHATZ THE POINT? I HATE SMALL FUEL "SO CALLED" EFFICIENT CARS THEY SUCK IM A V8 MAN TILL I DIE I LIKE THE COBALT SS S/C AND T/C THO THOSE CARS KICK ASS I WONT BE TURNING OVER A NEW LEAF.....A NISSAN LEAF THAT IS LOL!!!

YOU WOULD THINK nissan WOULD HAVE STOPPED MAKING UGLY CARS AFTER THEY MADE THE cube BUT WE WAS WRONG ! IF THERE WAS AN AWARD FOR WORLD'S MOST UGLIEST CARS THE RUNNERS UP WOULD BE: ford, toyota, honda, subaru, kia, volkswagen, acura, nissan THEY ALL WOULD BE RUNNING A CLOSE RACE WITH EACH OTHER BUT THEN IT WOULD BE A TIE BCUZ OUT OF ALL THESE COMPANIES I CANT AGREE WITH ON WHO HAS THE MOST UGLIEST CAR

For what it does it's a good deal IMO. I don't think it looks that bad either. I can't wait to see the Ford Focus plug in!
u need 2 get off our GM site THEN nobody cares about no ugly ass ford or volkswagen and the leaf is ugly just like the ugly focus and every other volkswagen ever made GM 4 LIFE

While there is almost no way to get that car in my garage, I don't find it ugly! With the easier to live with price, it should do just fine. BTW, Nissan can wait for an extended charge car, as battery technology catches up with demand and recharging capabilities!

:drive:
crack kills...and when designed was approved nissan had a free crack give A way this car is beyond ugly

Wow, big roll out.

You can bet GM is watching this closely. If it's not a huge success that can't be good for the Volt.
I think the Leaf's failure(s) will make the Volt look good! When Leafs keep getting towed home because of a dead battery (mileage will vary) the Volt owner just says, "Wouldn't have happened if you'd bought a Volt."

I hope GM takes the Leaf a little more seriously than some people here are taking it.

If the Leaf is priced at $32,780, then the Volt should be less expensive......
But the Volt already WILL be less expensive than buying a Leaf plus the second car you'll need for uses other than short range commuting.

Ugly looking car. If many are sold, we'll see many stranded along the road....not for me!

I wish the tax credit of $7500.00 would not apply for this car. I don't like my tax dollars go to a country that I know who would never do the same for us, if the situation was in reverse. Never mind that.....we can not even sell cars in Japan! They basically have a close market. If I had to power to remedy that problem, I would not hesitate to do the same as they do to us!

has basically a close market

After all this time you still think Volt is a Hybrid drive system?
Why?
Countless times, over and over, with hundreds of posts on "how the Volotec system works" you still don't get it?

Why do manufactureres insist on making anything that is attached to being green so damn blobby ugly plain. With that said I think everybody in government and state should be forced to order these instead of there normal rides to cut back cost of fuel use. Think if 1000's of these were used in the fleets instead of Impalas, Fusions etc how much gas would be saved. They want this so they should practice what they preach.

i cannot imagine driving that thing here in Atlanta as a commuter. Sitting in traffic for 2-3 hours because of pileups on the interstates and the battery going dry. And this happens here a lot.

Great commercial, A Chevy Volt pulls up to give a stranded Leaf owner a lift
I could see that, just like Howie's Silverado ad.

Although the Leaf's even worse than that. Giving him a lift won't do. He needs to hire a tow truck to get his car all the way back home, where his "special" charger is.

They are avoidable if you had a power company that was worth a damn! I mean I have power failures maybe once in a year for an hour... only once was it out for a couple of days, that was expensive (fridge...)
Happens all the time around here.
Storm rolls through and you got X number of people without power.
I never want a car that depends on the competancy of a power company.
Could you let me know what state your in ad if you know if the electricity in your state is privitazed? I'm just curious for research reasons.
Illinois... it's private.
