Check engine light comes on and I figure no big deal at 48K miles; probably an emissions thing. Take it to the dealer and they have to replace the timimg chain. Asked the service writer if there has been a problem with these motors and he gives me the usual song and dance not knowing I am familiar with cars (built and race a 10 second Turbo Buick).

I checked the Cadillac forum and it is lit up with this issue.

Any insight would truly be appreciated.

Thanks

Bob

Timing chains are only half the problem. Camshafts are walking and may require head replacement. To avoid that expense nylon shims are wedged in place for now.

Deja vu. I drive my 07 cts 3k miles per year. Bought it with 50k, and have 53k now. One day last week the yellow engine light came on. I called onstar, the ran a brief diagnostic and told me that it's okay to drive for a couple days but I need to have the car serviced ASAP. I drove 4 miles home and 2 to the dealer the next night. The code said it was a cam sensor, however it was really the timing chains stretched which in turn threw the sensor out of wack. They said I should be running in a day or two. Unfortunatly as they had it apart they discovered the heads need to be replaced as well due to the excessive play. My question to anyone is:
1. New timing chains, cams, head should last me for how long now?
2. Is it ever going to be the same/better once I get it back?
3. Is there anything else that could fail after this related to this?

Btw. I purchased the extended warranty so this is costing me $100. Which includes a new rental and parts and labor. Thank goodness I bought the service warranty, they treat me as if it was a brand new car.

No complaints on my end, heck they can have the car for 2 weeks, just as long as when I get it back it is done right the first time. I do not like redos or mistakes after an extended period of time.

I have heard the GM is making good on most of the repairs even after warranty. I'm having an issue with the timing chain too. Had the engine blow at 33,000 miles and since then they have extended the warranty for everyone to
120,000 because of the timing chain issue. My light came on at 135,000 , miles, when the new engine was put in I was told that it would take care of the oil issue and I had nothing to worry about. yeah right. Now they are giving me a hard time because I am over the warranty by my estimate the new engine only has 104,000 miles on it. The engine replacement took them almost a month because so many cars had the same problem.....Recall????? Hopefully will find out Monday or Tuesday what they are planning to do, this dealership is horrible and they never give you a straight answer.

I am having problems with the timing chains on my 2008 Buick Enclave CXL. My Engine Light came on, followed by the message Service Stabilatrak. Just got a quote for just over $3,000 to replace the Timing chains in my Buick, the SUV goes in to the shop on Tuesday. I was hoping to see some information on a recall notice. But it looks like I am not the only person being taken to the cleaners.
