2005 Silverado Vortec 5.3L w/ infamous lifter (?) tick on cold start

Started about 3 months ago. 120k miles. Been using GTX 5-30. After recent oil change it started lasting over 3-4 minutes on a cold start. Truck is garaged in heated area. It occurs after sitting for more than 4 hrs.', or in my case all night. I know this is old hat to most of you but it could become costly.
Looked up some remedies, short term to be sure and one of them was to drop a qt of oil and replace with ATF. Run at 1500 rpm for about 15 minutes and then drop oil & filter and replace with fresh. What are your thoughts on this procedure? Also I've read that some change out 5 qts of oil + add a quart of Mystery oil. Does any of this have any merit? Truck does not use oil. Performance so far is great. I do not put a load on it while it 'ticks'. I warm it to op temp and when engine is quiet I drive off. this can take up to 5 to ten minutes ...
Any info would be helpful

thx c/k

Thanks for the help. I think I've cured the problem with 'marvels mystery oil' a small amount added to the crankcase and now it clicks for a few seconds and is gone. Thanks for all the above information.

Edit: this will be a temporary solution for sure. c/k

Update for an 'old post' and thanks for all of the above advice. I went to a Pennzoil product and cured this old issue.
Penn. Gold synthetic blend, dexos, 5w-30 GF-5 stopped the click or slap. I've been very pleased with this product. Was suggested by a gm mech here locally. Currently -5 and will be -10 or -12 in the morning. Will start with NO NOISE. '
Go figure?
Thanks again and sorry for bringing up an old thread.
