All;
I am fairly new to this forum, read alot and not posting so much. I have a questions that you all might be able to help me with.

I just bought the most unbelievable truck that I have every owned. It is amazing in every way. Except for the wheels and tires. My truck is an '07 2500 Series 4x4 Suburban. I have tightened the torsion bars to get 2" of lift under the front end for tire clearance and to level it out a bit more. (No comments here about the ride, or the alignment needed, I am quite familiar with this proceedure and the protocols which follow doing it.)

I want to upgrade the wheels and tires. It came with the start Chevy aluminum 8 lugs which are 16". I have two wheels picked out that are 17" and 18". I want to maximize the tire size which out having to do any (or much) additional truck modifications. Could someone help with the tire size I would need for each wheel size, or at least direct me to someplace on the web that I might be able to find an answer.

It seems as tough my next step would be the local tire shop for an answer, though I have a hard time dicussing an issue like this with the high school students who work there (no offense you younguns...)

Thanks in advance,
Matt

I would guess 265/70 R16 would be what you have now. With the raised torsion bars, I would say max tire size would be 305/75 R17/18. If you do a lot of off-roading though, I would go with a size of 285/75 R17/18 just to be safe.

I don't do a lot of "off roading" per say, but I do tow a small 14' foot fishing boat back in some of the smaller lakes in northern Arizona for fishing excursions. I would say about 98% of the roads I travel on are no worse in shape then dirt fire access road.

I would assume that in upgrading wheels and tires, I would also need to be concerned with the off set of the wheel as well..... Bigger tire, more offset one way or another might affect the turnin radius I have, no ?

Thanks !!

I will have the speedo calibrated once the larger tires are installed... That is just part of this whole equation...... Typical proceedure.....

I have never had an issue with the ABS not working or not working correctly when I have installed bigger tires on my trucks in the past. Is there something with this NBS that will be affected with the larger tires that I should be concerned with ?

Thanks !!!!

Don't worry about the boat, its not big enough to affect anything.

305's should fit just fine w/o off set. I know a couple people that are running some BFG all terrains TA KO's 305/70 R16 on some Silverado's and have no problems rubbing. The trucks are completely stock and only have the torison bars turned all the way out. With that said, I am pretty sure there is no differnce between wheel wells of a 2500 Suburban and a 1500 Silverado, not positive though. I would personally go with a set of 285's though just cuz 305's look almost to much to me.

A question I have though is when increasing the rim size by only a few sizes, does the overall height of the tire including the rim change or just the size of the rim opening of the tire (i.e, bigger rim = less side wall)? If it does, then everything I have previously said probably won't work for you. :D

If you dont get the Speedo recalibrated, your odometre and everything else goes slower, so it looks like you have done less miles.
