That's the first thing I thought of also. One blowout at the wrong time and both people are instantly killed by running into that truck. It's not like doing 200mph is safe so why throw in added dangers? Can someone tell me what a bloody truck is doing on the track when you're testing a car at 200+mph???
are you serious? i definitely saw him shiftI guess that ZR1 has automatic...right?![]()
My bad...didn't pay attention earlier on the video.are you serious? i definitely saw him shift
It's long enough.Seems like a pretty short track for a top speed attempt.
It's a public track. GM could not close the track for testing. Can someone tell me what a bloody truck is doing on the track when you're testing a car at 200+mph???
Longer doesn't mean a higher top speed. You can watch the digital speedometer and it is at 205.???? forever which means it was already topped out way before the next turn came into play. The salt flats would probably knock 20 mph off of that 205.For top speed attemps no it is NOT long enough. You would need a track like Nardo or the salt flats for any record speed attempt. Nardo while being only 7.8miles is different in that the track is perfectly round and in most cars the steering wheel does not need to be turned the place also has monster banking.
The ZR1 according to GM reached a top speed of 208mph, the 205 number was the average of two runs.
It does not appear to be to bad. He is not even moving the steering wheel. They are not bouncing around either.I just want to know how it handles at that speed.
This track is better suited to top speed attempts than Nardo is. They came onto the straight with 200 mph already and had 2.5 miles for the remaining 5 mph.For top speed attemps no it is NOT long enough. Less steering input and steering angle all help in achieving higher top speeds. But you are right a better track would not have made any difference, several inside sources have said that the ZR1 has been computer limited to 210mph. Still its achieved top speed of 208 tops many other supercars. This track is better suited to top speed attempts than Nardo is. The banking at Nardo is a problem at high speeds because due to the centrifugal force the cars seemingly get heavier. This increases load on the tires and rolling resistance, reduces ground clearance and changes the aerodynamics.
Well, at Papenburg you would achieve your top speed on one of the straight sections, so no steering at all and no centrifugal force. At Nardo there's the centrifugal force weighing down the car and still _some_ steering necessary.Less steering input and steering angle all help in achieving higher top speeds.
