Anyone familiar with this "feature"?

^^^ No, I hadn't seen that before now. Good grief even.
Reese has put on a bit of weight laterly. And what's wrong with her feets? Looks like she could use an alignment.

That's exactly where Gen2 Volt landed.
They didn't get quite that high... 53 miles.
In very cold weather they can lose quite a bit of range, so double the original would be perfect.
The engine will still run some to provide heat, but less is better.

My daughter's 2017 Volt achieved a best of 72 miles on EV in optimal conditions. In summer it's easy to be consistently in the 60's but winter can drop as low as upper 30's with heat/defrost.

The best I ever achieved with my Gen1 Volt was 42 miles. What's the best on your ELR?

34 miles.
There was a software update a few years ago that lowered range to extend battery life.
Most 2014 ELRs get around mid-20's electric range these days.
That's still better than most current PHEVs.

Voltec likes regen situations a lot. 80 mph down the Interstate, not so much.

Honestly? That's just not enough anymore.
You can get "curves and art" in substantially better cars than Buick.

They simply need to build a better car. It doesn't need to be seen as "value" anything. It just needs to be seen as a "Buick." That's the only way it survives adjacent to Cadillac.
Flip side of that is... Cadillac needs to be more than just "edges and angles" as well.

I think GM is afraid of Buick and Cadillac crossing swords. And if they're afraid of that, that just means GM has been unable to define what a Buick and Cadillac actually is in their internal product vision and roadmaps. And that's a problem.

Buick needs to get away from the hockey stick roof styling that every car company has used over the last 25 years. Neo-retro styling from the 60s Buick Rivera is in order. Formal roofs need to make a comeback.

Keep the current lineup of SUVs except for Enclave. Low volume expensive omega based Roadmaster and Riviera. Enclave moves to omega and pushed upmarket. Ultium Buick Electra SUV and Electra liftback sedan with Audi a7 type of vibe. Factory Camaro SS swap into low volume Firebird "by Buick" without any "by Buick" Badging. Not sure about the new logo but its already here now we'll roll with it. GM your welcome.

So in my mind I was thinking Buick is a lot closer to Chevy than Cadillac so I did some pricing out on each car companies website and that pretty much confirmed it for me. Kind of eye opening how close Buick and Chevy are and how big the gap is between Buick and Cadillac.

I think the XT4 is a closer comparison with Envision. No Buick near match of XT5. No Caddy version of Encore GX.

How would you properly bean-count margins into an EREV or PHEV? People mentioned dislike for a 3 cyl., but they would cost less. Or does Buick have untapped upside price power?

I don't think 80 mph is kind to any electric's range.

Some posters have mentioned making it a "women's brand". I don't think you do that directly (like the La Femme example), but instead, you design vehicles that target and highlight women's concerns/needs without overtly pandering.

So safety and reliability were two factors brought up earlier in the thread - make all safety features standard, and tout it as the "only brand to have all IIHS+" or whatever the latest/highest standard is.

Continue to use what I call "understated elegance" - softer styling with more flowing bodywork as a "zag" to Cadillac's "zig" of more creased/angular designs. I actually think the new Envision is a good looking crossover.

Sort out this Encore thing - why are there 18 Encore models?

Bring back 1 - and only 1 - larger midsize sedan. That way it can still be nice enough to be a borderline "flagship" but also isn't unreachable. The Avenir concept of a few years ago is too much for Buick, IMO.

Like it or not, SUVs/crossovers are here to stay. Maybe the pendulum eventually swings a different way, but for now that's what the market wants.

"LaCrosse"
Encore
Envision
Enclave

I question the viability of some of these crossover coupes, but maybe an Envision version can appear.

The 2024 Envista is coming pretty soon, so the “crossover coupe” thing is coming to Buick. Gotta say they all look hideous so far IMO, looking at you BMW X6.

I have a feeling this thing is going to sell pretty well - depending on price of course. Has some of the benefits of a crossover and some of the benefits of a sedan. I could see a market for this.

Actually, many if not most "lemons" with true issues due to manufacturing defects are discovered nearly immediately after or even before delivery. If something is genuinely made wrong, it will have been wrong from day one. I remember my father purchased a 2001 Buick Rendezvous and had the transmission fail on the way home from the dealership; clearly that was a manufacturing defect...

One of my first jobs during college was actually administering JD Powers initial quality surveys for Jaguar / Land Rover owners. These were telephone based surveys performed roughly a month or two after purchase with nearly every Jag/Land buyer. If the vehicles had issues (we're talking mid 2000s Jaguars...), they were pretty apparent from day one. New car buyer's are usually hyper-sensitive to anything on the vehicle that "doesn't seem right" as they haven't yet developed any trust with the vehicle, and are still fighting the sub-conscious struggle of buyer's remorse. Once a buyer "gets used" to a vehicle, it becomes much easier for them to overlook any strange noises or performance inadequacies as "just the way the car is". Initial quality is a great indicator of the true manufacturing quality of the OEM automaker.

On the other hand, long-term reliability is really more of a study of the engineering specifications created by GM that suppliers developed and built their individual components too.

I can assure you, that these JD Power surveys (phone based with a live interviewer) are indeed legitimate, and any and all comments are recorded and notated. Its not as simple as a salesman trying to tell their customers to "give us all 10s". In fact, people who had any sort of issues with the vehicle or buying experience were even more likely to provide overly-detailed and drawn out responses to the open ended questions.
A Nissan dealership salesman actually offered me $50 off my vehicle just to answer the survey. Come to find out later the dealership management was a little shady and the business was sold a few years later.
