What???????

No smooth Vortecs or refined Chevy 3900 made the list?

I call foul!
Hey now, the 6.2L is easily the best gas engine you can get in a 1/2-ton truck.

I haven't driven a car with any of the engines on that list, so I can't complain. I wouldn't mind seeing the LS9 on the list next year though.
Edit: I can complain, the 2.0L VW engine from teh GTI is nice, but 200hp from a turbo 2.0L? Come on guys, step it up.

bogus list.

the LS7 was motorsports engine of the year. it walks all over the M5 V10 in compactness, light weight, power, and torque.

the ecotec turbo 2.0 makes way more power than the audi fsi turbo. and it's proven to be very durable.

the opc opel corsa turbo 1.6 is at least as good as the mini.

I can buy the list, but I just don't see BMW as "reliable", but they do make good performance engines.

I can also see the Japanese engines being popular.

My problem is that a really good euro engine can be ruined by a change in emission standards, like the ones in America. It can hurt the performance and fuel economy as well as cost, so those tiny little engines wouldn't be so impressive over here.

The Subaru boxer engine deserves to be on the list, that's for sure.

Didn't Saab's TwinScroll Turbo appear on this list 1-2 years ago??
No one complained then.
Saab's twinscroll turbo is ONE turbo on a smaller engine that gets BETTER fuel economy that the larger BMW with TWO turbos listed here. Furthermore, BMW's own I6 engines WITHOUT ANY turbos are more impressive than the engine in the 135/335/etc. So, I'm not against BMW's I6 being on the list, but, the one on the list doesn't belong.

So what BMW used two turbo's? Have you driven a N54 equipped vehicle? Drive one and you will understand why it's on the list. The two small turbo's help eliminate turbo lag and generate low end torque( all 300 lb of torque at 1400 RPM). The engine responds VERY nicely and power delivery is smooth. Also, the 9-3 gets 16/26 with the stick. The 335i gets 17/26 with the stick. How is that better again?

Never have I said it is a bad engine. IMO, engines deserve to be on this list because they are designed very well, are efficient, and are reasonably economic to produce. I guess everyone else thinks that the most expensive engines are what deserve to be on the list. Why not just throw money at a problem? lol. Even throwing economics out the window, these engines are not especially powerful or especially efficient. It looks very biased.

Now read my edit. The 9-3 2.8T gets 16/26 with a stick. The 335i with a stick gets 17/26. Explain to me how the 9-3 is more efficient then the 335i?

I like this list more then wards.
Yea, I think this one only completely screwed up one choice - the BMW 2.0L diesel should've won both 'Best New' and 'Green'.

The Prius powertrain is NOT Green when all is considered, and sure as heck is way behind the 2.0 no matter how you bias it - unless you just ignore the real world and environmental impacts of production and recycling.
