I am still furious about this.
I used to own a 2002 Trailblazer 4x4. Great truck.
I wish I had the leather seats, but other than that, it was perfect for me. I got around 17 to 18 mpg in mostly city driving. I get about 14-15 now in city driving in the Silverado.
The 4.2L, given it's torque curve, would benefit more from a six speed auto than the 5.3L small block.
Think about this, a new six speed auto and a redesigned interior and exterior. That's all the Trailblazer needs to stay on top. GM couldn't give it that.
The T360s were really good trucks....and it really sucks to see this plant go.
Now that gas prices are high, GM will have to combine any new Chevy SUV on a truck chassis, like the T355 since BOF trucks no longer warrant their own "ground up" chassis. Maybe that will mean a more off road capable SUV for Chevy in the future...which was a big complaint I had with my T360. So there is a bright side.
If Toyota can sell the 4Runner worldwide, then there is no reason General Motors, the best truckmaker in the world, couldn't do the same with a mid sized SUV. Since America is more of a Tahoe/Suburban marketplace, perhaps the new mid sized SUVs should be designed for Asian markets and carried here like the Astra, GTO, or G8. Who knows. I'd like something similar to the ZR2 blazer- those things still look cool today and it's been 4 or 5 years since they made one.
