It's simple, do you think GM will deliver a second gen G8, or will it be allowed to languish only to be unceremoniously killed?

I really hope it continues, but you know GM has a bad history with some great cars. Also, money is getting tight over there, so who knows?

IF GM revisits it, I hope they call it a Grand Prix and give it sleek aggressive futuristic styling...the G-8, for my taste, looks like a lukewarm, dated, mild rehashing of a Holden. I guess growing up with awesome Pontiacs in the 60's has left me with high expectations.

I think the G8 is a good car for what it's trying to be: an affordable RWD sports sedan with available V8 power. That being said, the interior is quite bland/drab (too dark) and it lacks many modern convenience features that a modern car should have (Bluetooth (I know it's coming, but should have had it from the get-go), navigation, HID headlights, HomeLink, auto-dimming mirror, iPod integration, etc).

I have also been wondering if these issues would be addressed with a 2nd gen version to be build up in Oshawa which was the original plan. At this point, though, I kind of doubt it. I think it'll be a one (generation) and done car.

If only GM had this car ready for the 2005 model year, things would have been very different...

We just get a decent RWD performance sedan that represents good value against it's competition and it's going to be killed.........I sure hope not.
Don't you think some buyers will think...."I need to save some money now so I'll buy a G8 instead of the Lexus, BMW, MBZ, etc. I was going to buy" ???

If anything, it would be built in Canada along with Camaro. It would get a shorter axle to dash length like the current G8, but probably share powertrains with the Camaro, so that means L99 and LS3 and lower prices due to American/Canadian dollar.
Also means SIDI V6's for G8 too, so no more L76.

Well, is there going to be a next-gen Holden Commodore? If yes, then yeah, of course there will be a next-gen G8.

Even if Holden produces a VF (or whatever they call it) Commodore, I have serious doubts as to whether or not it will make it to these shores. G8 sales simply have not been all that great and GM is moving away from large V8 cars. I could see GM easily reverting to a V6 (or more likely hybrid) powered FWD car ... basically returning to the Chevy Impala/Pontiac Grand Prix formula. Same basic car with different styling in and out.

Not saying I want that to happen ... I was happiest when I thought Pontiac would go all RWD, but the times they are a changin'.

Probably not, its a good vehicle so I'm betting GM will screw it away. Besides, it puts a thimble full of "performance" in Pontiac and we certainly can't have that. G3s for everyone!!!

Well, there is a V6 model. If GM can figure out how to make it a tad more fuel efficient, say 28 MPG, people would be more interested in it. And you'd always have the V8 for those who demand performance.

The G8 for what is based on is a good car. But as far as I am concerned, it IS a fake Pontiac. Just another poor blatant rebadge job again(just like the '04-'06 GTO) from GM for the redheaded (once)rebellious/black sheep member of the GM family.

Americans doesnt deserve a good car, period!!!!!!

Please don't bring the rest of the world down, just because Americans cant make a good car and cant run their operations properly. GM should just shut down Cadillac, Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer, and the rest of their unprofitable and garbage North American brands.

As far as im concerned Holden shouldn't associate their name to a worthless junk like Pontiac!!!!

:lmao:Ha ha you obviously have no idea what Holden is. For years it's been nothing but a rebadge brand for Opel & Daewoo models (which are not the most finest automobiles in the past 30 years). The current Commodore and it's extended version the Statesman are the first original cars Holden has made since 1971.
Pontiac is the more storied brand between the two. If you go in a book store anywhere in the world and open a book about the greatest cars in the world of all time, then I will guarantee you there will be a picture of a GTO or even a Trans Am....but you will never see a Holden. So you're stupid remark should actually be reversed. It should go: "As far as im concerned Pontiac shouldn't associate their name to a worthless junk like Holden!!!"

If that amounts to your understanding of Holden, then to paraphrase yourself ..

I'm of the opinion that GM and Holden have benefited each other, but I suppose it's more fun to brag on your particular favorite brand and put down the other guy.

Back to the topic....

While I love the G8 and would love to own one, I think its days are numbered. With the rumors floating around about the cancellation of both the Caddy and Buick Zetas, I feel that the G8 and possibly the Camaro aren't long for this Earth. I hope I'm wrong, but GM is really in flux right now and as a fan, I'm getting less and less optimistic. I would be shocked if these Zetas make it to a second gen at this point.
