Just picked up the new Truckin magazine and they compare the annual fuel costs for fullsize trucks using EPA data:


Nissan Titan 5.6L V8 Automatic $3,759

Dodge Ram 5.7L V8 Automatic $3,512

Toyota Tundra 5.7L V8 Automatic $3,291

Ford F150 5.4L V8 Automatic $3,512

Chevy Silverado 5.3L V8 Automatic $3,096


Why isn't GM advertizing this? Create some positive PR dammit!!!


They included the numbers for a Toyota Corolla for comparison:

1.8L 4-Cylinder Automatic $1,816 (Not a huge difference, I thought gas guzzling trucks were ruining the world)

The 5.3L V8 gets significantly less fuel economy than the 4.8L does is highway driving, even though the EPA tests don't show much of a difference. And four wheel drive reduces fuel economy more than their tests show.

Probably because when someone buys a full size truck that typically runs $35,000+ they are not going to let a spread of $600 between the best and worst mileage be a deal breaker. In fact in real world driving the spread is even less.

I disagree, I consider this a competitive advantage.

If you haven't noticed in the past in real world tests, The Japanese competition fairs worse than in EPA ran tests. lolz

Exactly and so does the GM trucks.

People who buy full size trucks from the big 3 are the most brand loyal so gas mileage doesn't come into play because they are buying a brand.

The people who are then looking at a full size import truck have a choice of 3 trucks who have a $250 spread. Hardly enough to even consider when buying a $35,000 vehicle.

But they are. The last Silverado ad I saw specifically stated how it has the best fuel economy of any competitive vehicle. What more do you want?

Obviously GM hasn't been touting this enough. I don't give a rats ass about cars but trucks are something I pay attention to and I've never heard it.

I see it advertised quite often. Just saw another new one tonight based on the Cobalt one. The guy does the same thing, but gets out of a truck without getting gas and the hose comes off the pump and tries to pump gas into the truck but it doesn't work. The guy comes out of the station with some munchies and leaves without getting any gas. Then they end it by saying how gas stations hate the new Chevy truck and it class leading 20mpg.

Kinda lame but they advertise it all the time, especially now in conjunction with the 72 month sale.
