My wife and I are going to the Detroit Auto show this year. We are going to be in Detroit for a little over a week and we have passes for 3 days. This is my first time in Detroit and to a major auto show. Does anyone who has been have any tips for getting the most out of the show? I would like to see as much as possible. What else is there to do in Detroit? I know there's all the tourist stuff, but what about the best local restaurants and bars? And finally, who else is going? I think it would be cool to meet some fellow GMIers.

I was thinking of going, but since Cadillac will seemingly have no debuts, Ill go to the Houston show instead where I'm sure the ATS-V and CTS-V will be shown, and then do the NYIAS in April to see the CT5.

Unfortunately, I am nowhere near Detroit.

Anyone up for the DC show?!
Family and I always go to the DC show. Not sure which day we will be going yet, probably be the 24th or 25th.

Any of the GMi brass want to get one of us going a press pass for the 22nd Public Policy Makers Day to catch Johan de Nysschen's Keynote speech?

I'll be there, not sure if it'll be during one of the industry days or during the day during the public show.

TIPS:

1) Go during the day on a week day if you can. I haven't gone on a weekend in years, but the last time I did, trying to get near anything interesting resembled a mosh pit.

2) I usually try to park on Cobo roof-top, but availability is typically hit or miss.

Additionally, and I haven't done this in a while, but parking somewhere along the People Mover route and taking that in is pretty cool.

I'm most likely going.

I'll paste here what I wrote in a FIN thread a few weeks ago:

Downtown and Midtown Detroit are perfectly safe, up and coming neighborhoods. They also have lots of cool attractions and fun things to do.

For example, if you're into skating, there's a pretty decently sized rink open to the public:

My advice is to book a hotel room Downtown. The Westin Book Cadillac is an excellent choice, or you can try out the brand spankin' new Aloft hotel that's opening in two weeks. Either way, you really can't go wrong. There are also casino-hotels if you'd like, and there are also just regular hotels.

Bottom line is, Detroit is a very nice city that gets painted as a ****hole. Don't stray far outside of Downtown or Midtown and you'll be perfectly fine. In fact, Downtown Detroit is safer than many other large city Downtowns.

Have fun, and maybe we'll run into each other at the show! :thumb:

Ok! I really enjoyed the pictures, news, and information from the ATS-V reveal and was hoping for more of the same type of coverage from Detroit! I don't know if you want to start another thread on questions, comments, or concerns that we could submit for the show.

Anyhoosits, I was hoping to learn more on what's happening with the ZR2, the new Raptor from Ford, are the rumors true of a Bronco return, and what scoops you can find out about this new RAM that is, supposed, to be shown at Detroit.

Darn, sorry I'm going to miss it this year it seems. Too bad sounds like I'll miss my best buddy ^ ^ ^
So if I see a big tall bald goon hugging and kissing the Michelin Man this year, it not going to be you this time?

No this wasn't "Mr. Clean" it might have been "Mr. Dirty" though, I also saw same guy next to the Topaz Blue Silverado, with a BIG grin, he had his hands in his pockets, waxing....... poetically, I think. :lmao:
