The new 10-speed automatic making it's debut in the Camaro ZL1 later this year is about to proliferate through the General's entire lineup.

GM says we'll see the new dime in no less than 8 additional models come 2018, but which?

Because of efficiency gains it's a given we'll see it in both the Silverado and Sierra and by extension the Suburban, Tahoe and Escalade.

That makes 5, but what about beyond that?

We could see it show up bolted to both the CTS and ATS-V. With the CTS-V it would be a literal plug and play, sharing both the Alpha platform and the supercharged LT4 with the Camaro ZL1; while the ATS-V could benefit from an optimized 10-speed keeping it in the boost.

And what about Cadillac's current flagship the CT6?

The Corvette Z06 shares an LT4 with the ZL1 and CTS-V-- with it being the pinnacle of General Motors performance one would assume it's the next logical candidate. However, according to Corvette Forum, at the NCM Corvette Bash a few weeks ago one of the engineers said the A10 won't physically fit, despite being sized similar to the A8; the two extra gears make it slightly longer.

The Canyon/Colorado twins were expected to get the 8-speed for model year 2016 but that didn't happen. It's possible the delay was due to waiting for the 10-speed but this is unsubstantiated.

Lastly we come to the Chevy SS, with it's future uncertain beyond 2017 it's not likely GM gives it the A10 during it's last hurrah on Zeta. However at the New York International Auto Show, lead Camaro engineer, Al Oppenheiser hinted a second gen SS sedan could be on the horizon. It's widely expected that should the SS get a new lease on life it will migrate to the Alpha platform, making it another ideal candidate for the 10-speed automatic.

Also muddling the conclusion is the fact that the 8-speed isn't going away, it's slotted to continue in the Camaro, Corvette, Cadillac sedans and GM's full-size pickups.

It's possible we see both the A8 and A10 coexist. Similar to the Camaro SS and ZL1, we could see the 8-speed handling lower trims and the 10-speed reserved for the higher end models like ZL1 and Denali.
