I doubt we'll see this. They're going to want to maintain some separation between the Canyon/Colorado and the Sierra/Silverado
We'll see it as soon as someone with money swaps one in. I put the odds at far less than 1% that GM would ever offer the 5.3 as a factory option, even on a Denali version.

Because it would be awesome?
6.2 reg cab Silverado would be awesome too, but I doubt we'll see it.
I drove a Colorado yesterday, and I'll tell you there is plenty of room for a smallblock and it would be an easy swap, other than emissions stuff. GM should offer it, but probably won't for at least a couple years. It would be ideal for the upcoming Trailblazer
Never. Just bring back the S10 Xtreme and offer up a regcab with a built 5.3 or 6.2 and i will pay 60k any day. That was the best looking truck ever made and perfect in size and GM screwed up by offering up a 4 banger in most of them.
We MIGHT get the 5.3, 6.2 will never happen.
I'm hoping to see a 5.3 Denali. I'll settle for a 2.8td Denali though.
GM isn't the only game in town. Although I prefer GM products, if they don't offer what I want, I'll buy from someone else.
I would buy a Trailblazer with a 5.3 or 4.3 tomorrow, but Jeep offers a similar product, and several others. GM has to earn my business, the question is will they?

You can buy a Trailblazer with a 4.2 tomorrow. That's pretty close.

Unfortunately, that model has been discontinued for five years. Sorry to break the news to you.

WOW, THANKS!!!! Who could have guessed that there were used Trailblazers out there! Thank you so much!

4.2?
IIRC, they did not launch the prior Colorado with a 5.3 option. It was something added after several years to drum up interest in a flagging model. So I could see it happen, CAFE wouldn't not be a big issue for only a few thousand units a year of a special line. But it's going to be a while, there's enough interest right now during the introduction year, as the trucks are.
I think there is a higher chance of getting the twin turbo 3.6 liter engine.

There doesn't really seem to be much point. Based on real world discounts, a Colorado V-8 would probably be more or less similar to a Silverado V-8. I'm not opposed to the option of course, but I can understand why perceived demand would be too low to garner attention from GM.

However, if they made a Trailblazer/Envoy type of SUV based on the Colorado/Canyon then a V-8 option would be a good one.
Will it be worth it? You're looking at a significant weight gain to get 50 or so more HP. Yes, the truck would feel quicker with the added torque but the 3.6 isn't lacking in power and is fairly well matched to the size of the Colorado.
