It seems like a decade since GM has been talking about the next Impala .. it is to be RWD , retro inspired etc .. now probably FWD and G-d know how it will look.

We all accepted that Camaro was the sacrificial lamb to PR, but the Impala was to be out for 2010 model year or 2010 calendar year - I would imagine some information would be available by now - hell - Taurus will be on its 3rd version all while Impala is still on its current W-body version ...

anyone has any information?

I've been wondering that for ages too, keep hoping for an awesome "concept" to show up at an auto show but one never does. The 1965 model blew people out of the water with its dazzling style...here's hoping the next-gen Impala returns to those glory days.

O and PLEASE don't try and throw around the Taurus being on its 3rd version blah blah. Yeh because the 500 was a complete turd, followed by the Taurus which is a turd with a razor front and it looks like this new leaked images, Ford might actually get a car right.

No RWD, it will be FWD.
When will it come? I guess soon. I guess the new Oshawa will be flexbile enough to make Zeta Camaros as well as W body LaX and Impala?
We should see a large LWB Epsilon Impala coming soon. Maybe for NYIAS with Camaro production.

I was told by one of my frineds at GM (at the Detroit auto show) that the new Impala wasn't dead, but just on hold. Of course that may have changed since January.

Guess we will have to see what shakes out eventually.

I hope that things start to materialize soon. The Taurus does look pretty good.
I hope so. Maybe the leaked Taurus photo will give GM a kick in the butt to help move the Impala along.

It would be interesting if Chevy offered a FWD Impala with an AWD option.

3 years old..... But when you boil it right down, it's really about 10 years old.
And when the Superman Taurus is launched.... say "bye bye" to the Impala. Because for those of us who saw the Superman spy pic..... Impala will essentially be DOA.

That's be assuming GM just does nothing with the Impala and doesn't bring out anything to replace it....which is not the case.

Right now, I honestly could care less if it's FWD or RWD. Just redesign the car into something that doesn't get old after three years. Get the guys who designed the Malibu, CTS, and Lambdas together and have them come up with a kickass new Impala.

I think the current generation Imapala ages well. It's a bit bland, but it's a clean look and it doesn't feel cheap.

It could use an update, though...but I think that an updated FWD Impala would hurt the higher end Malibus, which is why I think they should go RWD.

The Malibu should slowly turn into the volume Chevy car, while the Impala should be the flagship Chevy sedan.....which is to say it has to represent the brand that brought us the Corvette, Tahoe, Suburban, and Camaro (luxury and sport!).

As far as large FWD sedans go, the Impala sells well. The Avalon is tanking as is the Maxima. The Taurus and Buick models don't do well at all...yet the 300C and Charger seem to be doing okay considering that they are made by Chrysler (and all that goes with that!) and they are an older design.

The Impala is GM's number one selling car guys, GM knows how important it is and they wouldn't just neglect or abandon it--management doesn't do that sort of thing. The new Impala should go be arriving at dealers soon. Maybe today. ;)

I was in my Chevy Dealer the other day because my Lease is up in September on my 2006 SS and wanted to see what my options were, like pull ahead, GM Card Bonus and what I would like to drive next, with gas mileage being my #1 priority. I looked into getting a 4 cylinder Malibu w/the 6 speed as I have some time to wait, but my Salesman told me there will be a new Impala SS out in 2009, when I questioned what it would be he told me a Chevy G8. I was kind of shocked and I asked if he was sure and he told me I'll be driving one for my next car that's how sure he is, problem is, unless it's built in the U.S. or Canada I don't want it. Any way, take it with a grain of salt, I have dealt with this guy for a long time, bought a lot of cars and trucks from him, don't know if he's right or wrong, but it is something to add to the rumor mill.

Does anyone have any idea when we might be seeing a new Impala "concept" at an auto show? While the Invicta image has greatly scaled back my enthusiasm for that car, my chronic optimism has me hoping for a truly fine looking new Impala on par its in impact on car culture with the 1965 Impala. Would such a concept be reserved solely for a Detroit or New York unveiling? Would be cool if it had six tail lamp lenses updated for the 21st century.

Good grief I SO hope he is wrong....a Chevy G-8 clone? Rebadging revisited and gone rampant?
