El Capuccino Volvo 'ute spotted outside museum

Volvo has been known for its safety and practical nature since the company's inception, but what we never expected to see from the Swedish automaker is a sport 'ute. A quick-witted photographer snapped up a few pics of an XC70 outside the Volvo museum in Sweden that has been converted for pickup duty, and it looks pretty damn good. Surprisingly, the Volvo ute looks exceptionally well built, thanks to the efforts of Swedish coachbuilder Dalbo Fordonsteknik. While it won't be confused with an El Camino or Ford Falcon, it has a small but usable bed, a shark fin-like design in profile, and what looks like some covered space behind the front seats.

Interesting. That would suite my needs better than a full-sized pickup. I doubt that Volvo would build anything like that, nor would there likely be many traditional Volvo buyers looking for that, but it's interesting.

I like the seemingly production level quality of this build, but its likely a custom one-off for someone with too much $$. The design is very well done, and still looks very much like a Volvo -- I'd love to see this hit the showroom floor, but thats highly doubtful. The source article (carscoop.blogspot.com) has more pics of the wild 6-wheeler tow vehicle.

it looks surprisingly good for a custom Volvo. i like how the coach builder created the bed without ruining this Volvo's design. I'd love to see one hit showrooms but I highly doubt that will ever happen

I hope to see more aftermarket coach builders taking some initiatives.

Volvo should give the green light to this "ute"/pick-up, it's a good alternative to the "Fridgeline"

It's been a few years, but when Ford bought Volvo there were some stipulations on the use of the name "Volvo." Ford could make Volvo cars and SUVs but there was a problem with a Ford-built Volvo "truck," unless (like Sport Trac and Avalanche) Ford decided to call this type of vehicle a "sport ute."

And the XC90-based pickup is definitely a one-off.
