Infighting with new owner Porsche has led many to fret over Volkswagen's future, but company officials insist the struggles are being blown out of proportion, just today releasing a statement of cooperation that appears to have put the fighting to an end. Whatever the case, the stock markets are confident the company will succeed - VW's stock briefly touched €1,005 ($1,261) yesterday, making the company the most valuable in the world at roughly €295 billion, or $369 billion, temporarily exceeding Exxon-Mobil's $343 billion market capitalization.

Unbelievable.

And once reality sets in, this sucker's going to go down big time. It'll lose 70 - 80% of its value in the coming months as this price (and cap) is unsustainable.

$1261?!? That's a one way ticket to crazy town man!

You'd have to be smoking something pretty strong to buy stock at that price.

Well, one way to look at this is that VW got their wish: they are bigger than Toyota! At least in market cap.

My question is....Why?

Perceived value sure is a lot different from actual value. :)

So . . . today, the VW conglomerate was worth over 60 TIMES WHAT GM IS.

Maybe VW should simply buy GM outright.

What a portfolio . . . think of it . . . Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, Skoda, Bentley, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Buick, Cadillac, GMC, Saturn, Hummer, Opel/Vauxhall, SAAB, GM-DAT and Holden.

VW would be a better owner than the Japanese, Koreans, Chinese or Indians. That's for damn sure. . . plus the kudos of Porsche being in ultimate control.

Maybe they'll revive Oldsmobile . . . . well, they did bring Bugatti back from the history books.

VW uber alles! Heute Wolfsburg, morgen Die Welt!

Someone who had stock before this porsche takeover deal just got incredibly rich.
Well, not the most impressive in this weird and fluky story but 2 years ago (Oct2006) you could get all you wanted at approx 120 -125$.:)

You don't see this very often - no matter what.
