I got a 1999 buick regal LS, engine is shot, found a guy parting out a 2005 buick allure, it is also a 3.8 v6, the regal engines dont have the plastic shroud covering the intake and what not but the buick allure does im just curious if in fact the same engine or not. I havent seen the allure in person yet as its 6 hour round trip. Im pretty sure the engine is the same just the plastic shroud is throwing me off and the guy doesnt want to remove it of course and take a picture (lazy i guess) if ya'll say its the same then ima do the trip and get it

3.8 non-supercharged v6

IDK if the car's have them, but trucks have an RPO code sticker in the glove box, indicating all the options the vehicle came w from the factory, including which engine it came with. It's a sticker with a list of 3-digit codes (called rpo codes).

You might have him send you a pic of that rpo code sticker (in trucks of that era, it's in the glovebox). Then find the engine rpo code his sticker with the engine code on your sticker. If they are the same, great, if they are different, you can do research to find out what the differences are, it may just be something simple, like swapping the intake system between the two to make it work.

I had a 1996 Buick Regal with the 3.8L Series II as my first car. So the 3800 holds a special place in my nostalgia heart for sure. Your 1999 would also have a Series II
I thought a 2006 seems like it might be a Series III, and I see in your picture it does say Series III. Whether or not you could still run it just fine with the ECU and TCM from your 1999, I don't know.

If you scroll far enough down this page you get to the 3800 V6 section, and they list out the series. The article mentions the physical parts being pretty interchangeable since they made changes for any remaining Series II engines after 2004, so it seems plausible?
