This is the letter I wrote to GM Pres. Waggoner, on the Union of Concerned Scientists Action Network > http://www.ucsusa.org/



Nice Form letter: Your company recently launched an online initiative to solicit dialogue with consumers. With that in mind, I am writing to express my concerns regarding General Motors' use of hybrid technologies.

As gas prices continue to skyrocket, and we face the threat of dangerous global warming, I am disappointed that GM has decided to use its hybrid technology to boost vehicle power instead of boosting fuel economy. By attaching hybrid technology to larger, gas-thirsty gasoline engines on your Yukon and Tahoe Hybrid models, GM has chosen to boost muscle instead of miles.

My introductory edit of the letter: When will you freaks get a CLUE??You WASTE hybrid technology on GAS GUZZLERS then BRAG about it on your commercials. You guys make me sick. I will NEVER buy a GM vehicle. You are IDIOTS!

You aren't making any sense. The big SUV's aren't boosting power but economy, look at the numbers.

Plus doesn't making let's say a 20% economy boost on a vehicle that gets 15 mi/gal a much better saving of fuel than 20% on something that gets 40?

You really don't write good letters. If you want to persuade someone about anything, don't call them an "idiot" since they will simply take your sheet of paper you sent them and put it in the garbage. Or maybe recycling basket. I know I am.

20% , 15 mpg? Both very exaggerated estimates. More like 10% better mileage on 10 mpg for those gas guzzlers. They are still using the old EPA mpg estimates which are very misleading.

What the hell are you bantering on about?
1. Based on 2007 GM Large Utility segment and 2008 EPA estimates. Tahoe 2WD with available 5.3L V8 has EPA est. MPG 14 city/20 hwy.
Taken right off the Chevy website. Clearly shows that they are using the new 2008 EPA estimates.

First off, it would help to spell the man's name right. It's Wagoner.
Second, hybrids are the most worthless vehicles one can buy. All they do is save gas. That's it. You don't save money since you'll have to replace the batteries eventually. Fuel economy varies with driver input. If you drive like a lot of people, you won't even get close to the EPA estimate.
Electricity and hydrogen are the future. Hybrids are just another fad that GM has to produce to keep up with other companies. Once E-Flex becomes widely available, hybrids will become a thing of the past.
And finally, if you've sworn off GM just for the lousy reason that they won't make your precious hybrids, then why the hell are you even on this site?

The EPA under Bush's regime is a pathetic crock. They are actually forbidding California from adopting clean car standards because GM and Ford doesnt want them!! So I dont believe anything the EPA says anyway. They are most likely in collusion with GM.

I'm just letting GM know what millions are thinking about their products and company. In this day and age of shrinking oil supplies and increasing CO2 pollution from millions of GM guzzlers GM is shooting itself in the foot.
Oh, and I am 52 years old and growing more concerned like millions of tother baby boomers about how American car companies continue to be so freakin' clueless!

Well, you've come to the wrong place. Looks like you missed the part that said that GM Inside News is not affiliated with GM in any way. Looks like you also missed the fact that GM sold 9.37 million cars last year. I don't know who you're referring to, but millions of people still buy GM.
If you don't like domestic car companies just for the pathetic reason that they won't build hybrids, then go get a toyota. Just don't come crying to us when it breaks down.

This is so that the engine can stay in 4 cyl mode longer when not in hybrid mode and thus use less fuel. Remember this is a 5,000lb SUV we are talking about. Sometimes more power is needed to use less gas.

Modest? Numerous real-world test have proven that a two-mode Tahoe can achieve above 20 mpg averages (usually around 24 mpg average) and some have shown the vehicle reaching 30 mpg. Remember this vehicle can tow the family boat, camper, etc. and still get better city mileage than many cars on the road today.

Anway, taking a behemoth like that, with EPA numbers at 20 MPG, I wasn't expecting too much, However I was surprised and impressed with it's Fuel Economy, especially on a drizzling cool day. I spent well over 98% of the drive in V4 mode, and averaged around 30 MPG with it.

No, its not a Prius. It was never intended to be a Prius or be Prius like. Thats what the Volt is for. Soon you will protesting on ToyotaNation.com why Toyota doesn't make a real hybrid like the Volt.
