I just don't understand this. What the UAW looks at as leverage could be the last gasp of GM factories in North America. Can Chinese manufactured GM's be far away?
Regardless of what the UAW does GM is going to get rid of its US factories as soon as they can unless the Government does something to give an incentive of manufacturing in the US(subsidize) or remove the advantage of manufacturing abroad (tariffs).I just don't understand this. If the dollar keeps falling and the Euro and other currencies keep gaining, why wouldn't you see a resurgence of manufacturing here?Regardless of what the UAW does GM is going to get rid of its US factories as soon as they can unless the Government does something to give an incentive of manufacturing in the US(subsidize) or remove the advantage of manufacturing abroad (tariffs).
Its called leverage, and the Union has not had much of it lately,so in their minds use it while you can. This is a very aggressive approach and it seems cruel on UAW's part. Taking advantage of a company who has some bad times. The fact that they are targeting the successful product at the company says a lot.
Because China's currency is pegged to the dollar, there are very few environmental or labor laws that are enforced in China, Chinese factories do not have to pay $8,000 a year for health insurance, they don't have to pay 7.5% for social security, they don't have to pay unemployment benefits or worker comp insurance, and China does not have any ever increasing minimum wage.If the dollar keeps falling and the Euro and other currencies keep gaining, why wouldn't you see a resurgence of manufacturing here?
Then I say schedule overtime at the other plant that makes Malibu's. The Aura and G6 have high inventories anyway. The UAW needs to get over themselves! They are holding up a contract over things such as seniority?GM Plant in Fairfax, Kan, Makes Chevy Malibu, Saturn Aura

Lol, the UAW mob doesn't care about tomorrow, they want TODAY! Anyway, they won't kill GM in the future because they won't be working for GM in the future. The more they hurt GM, the less chance they have of keeping decent wages. If the UAW had any brains, they'd let their workers take pay cuts, then strike in the future when GM is loaded with money. But the way things are now, the UAW is just killing GM, present and future, and taken themselves with them.
UAW's above market rate wages, threats of strikes and antiquated work rules negates the advantage of the weak dollar. At most I would expect US makers to close their rust belt factories and open new ones in "right to work" states. If the dollar keeps falling and the Euro and other currencies keep gaining, why wouldn't you see a resurgence of manufacturing here?

That's why.
Yes it is. J/k. I'm proud to say I've done my part. I've only shopped at Walmart ONCE in my life and I purchased 2 folding chairs. Only went there because I knew I could find them there and I was out of town so I didn't know the area's other stores.Buying jeans for $12.99 and seeing that same neighbor who now works at walmart is practically starving.
Is walmart's stock price worth the death of a nation?
Is the UAW loaded with idiots? The more they hurt GM, the less chance they have of keeping decent wages.
