Has anyone had issues with Campers NOT fitting on NBS 2500 and 3500 GMC and chev trucks....?

My customer brought his back a couple days ago and said his 2005 northern lite camper dont fit.. I figured he was crazy, so he brought his truck by and showed me the dents and scratches, were he 'tried' to get in in the box...

the problem, right at the back of the box, the NBS has little 'posts' that stick out and run the whole way up the box, for support I guess, the rounded part on the bottom is not an issues, some plywood can get a camper Over that part, but the post make the box to narrow, for certain campers. Im no camper expert by no means, but the way it is explained to me is any camper with an addition for the crapper and shower, has a piece that sticks out in the lower rear of the camper, anyhow it dont fit.

so far I have had 2, and the salesman at our other store had to use a sledgehammer and beat the thing back half inch each side to get his to fit...

his northern lite, apparently bigfoot campers and one other have the same design..

just wondering if anyone else ran into this.??

Wow- I'm surprised that this would be a problem for GM and not Ford. Their beds are huge!

The rounded part on the bottom makes it so you HAVE to add plywood to get over it, no big deal, the problem is that the hole thing is to wide, it has to be sledgehammered in to get some campers to fit......

I dont know campers but form what I understand any larger camper with a crapper and shower in the back has to have a extra tank and stuff and they are put in the back lower portion of the campers so they stick out a bit...anyhow basically GM and the camper guys gots a square block trying to go in a round hole, just dont fit on some models.....now the camper dealers in town are calling us freaking.....good times good times

I have a 2008 2500 HD with the problem of the "redesigned bed" My Nothernlite camper would not fit either so I cut out 1/2 inch of the post on bothe sides and welded in flat panels of fourteen gage steel. Sanded and painted it so that it looks "factory" This is a more sophisticated way than the old sledgehammer method even though both accomplish the task. remember 1/2 inch on both sides! Takes about four hours total. You need a mig welder and flat grinder and a can of touch up paint(spray) . the tail lights on both sides must be removed which is easy. I sure would like to talk to the bright engineer who decided after all these years to just suddenly change the bed configuration on these trucks!!! Better still i'd like to talk to his supervisor!!

Well after much discussion with GM on it we opted for the hammer, and a rubber piece to cover the metal, that way the rust warranty is still good, the welding way it is not anymore. but either would work...pretty sure its ONLY northern lite
