I'm making a first attempt at rebuilding a transmission on a 02 Impala. What's my best plan of attack? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Why? You can buy replacement assemblies with a warranty for a fair price.

If you just want to rebuild it,

buy a service manual or overhaul manual.

You need a lift or comparable work space because the transaxle comes out the bottom.

You need lint free rags/towels.

you need a clean work space

you will need multiple specialized tools to remove the transaxle from the car and to due the overhaul

Out of curiosity why does it need rebuilding? 90% of the time these 4T65's are not diagnosed correctly and the slips, skips bang shifts etc are all related to the transmission pressure control module. Is yours high miles? Did it actually fail?

2nd transmission and I have about 60,000 on this one total millage 150,000 aprox. When the car warms up after about 20 min. of driving it wont switch gears it just revs up. I took it to the shop the guy said its got no codes and he wants to rebuild it for $1600, so I started looking into what's involved. After some digging I did see that a shift control module could be the problem. The engine runs good so I think I might go this rout. What's the best way to diagnose the module, and could the torque convertor module be an issue to ?
